1. Stephen Johnson - check.

John Groen - check.

Anything to reshape this court from emulating the 9th Circus.

2. He would be a Justice in the mold of Sanders.

3. 1 Sorry I missed you on KUOW
2 Anything interesting happen or was it just crank calls from the tin foil hat crowd?

4. Stefan likes Groen....enough said. Go JERRY!

5. LovinUSA:

....enough said. Go JERRY!

Ummmm.....good to see you're paying attention. It's with a G.

Obviously, the intellegent support has started rallying already. Please vote for Jerry at your earliest opportunity :)

6. Maybe he means he's going to write in Jerry Lewis? Hey, that's got to be an improvement over Chief Injustice GERRY Alexander. Jerry (Lewis) is probably smarter and more fair-minded.

7. I wish his name was Groen Johnson and not John Groen.
This puts a damper on my plan to have the entire court named after the townsfolk in Blazing Saddles!

But at least he has the right judicial philosophy which will do...

Posted by: Reporterward on April 7, 2006 03:40 PM
8. Yeah, Alexander is about as activist as it gets. I think he mistakenly believes he's in the legislative branch of government instead of the judicial.

Posted by: Jeff B. on April 7, 2006 05:38 PM
9. Alexander will be off the bench by the time of the election. He will be arrested at 1:30 pm on May 9, 2006.

Groen is a very good many for the job.

10. Do you guys know anything about Alexander or do you just take as gospel any talking points memo that you hear? On a court that is admittedly left-leaning, Alexander is one of the best conserative allies on the court. Of the last 16 decision that i can discern a conserative stake in, he has voted for the right 13 out of 16 times. But I guess you would have to actually do some thinking and analysis to know any of this.

Posted by: Joseph on April 8, 2006 09:15 AM
11. "Joseph" -- list those decisions.

Posted by: Stefan Sharkansky on April 8, 2006 09:17 AM
12. Socialism is immoral - It breaks the spirit of the people who want to achieve something on their own and propagates the welfare state. Alexander's rulings have been consistent with the socialist platform. It is high time for him to be removed of his black robe ! As one reputable talk show host put it; "The stench on the bench is making me clench"

Time to replace an immoral justice with one who is moral. Vote Groen !

Posted by: KS on April 8, 2006 09:20 AM
13. Joseph - I predict that those 13 of 16 decisions exist only in your imagination and you will never be able to list them... Alexander sure as h*!! is no conservative !

Posted by: KS on April 8, 2006 09:22 AM
14. Who is out there that is willing to take on Chambers? He's more liberal than Alexander is, but he has a free pass so far.

Posted by: NWconservative on April 8, 2006 09:29 AM
15. I'm not sure if John can win. Gerry's got a lot of Dan Evans-type Republicans who still support him.

By the way it's pronounced "Gary"--not "Jerry"--Alexander. So I suppose many of the folks here don't really know much about him.

Posted by: DJ on April 8, 2006 10:03 AM
16. I do share Joseph's opinion on this issue. Sorry guys. One of the saddest things about the growing divisenness in politics is how the courts have been tugged into the fray. Yes, I know the republican mantra: we are just trying to protect the courts. I don't buy it. No matter what side of the isle you hail from, you are going to believe that judges you disagree with are being "activist." Judges are suppose to be independant, not bankrolled by sources with a single minded agenda. The best court is the one with the brighest minds who share a wide range of opinions and experience. We need judges with broad experience and a breadth of knowledge on the issues, including criminal law, which makes up 55% of the court's docket. Groen has no place on that court.

17. Well, "Kathleen", the reason you "share Joseph's opinion" is that you are the same person. Or at least you are both posting from the same computer.

Posted by: Stefan Sharkansky on April 8, 2006 11:29 AM
18. sorry i didnt realize that a wife is not permitted to also post after her husband has, or to share his opinion. guess that makes my opinion less credible.

Posted by: Kathleen on April 8, 2006 11:38 AM
19. But after your done trying to disparage me for sharing a computer with my husband, please feel free to comment on the substance of my ideas. You wouldnt be one of those people who slings mud or makes dispersions because you dont have anything intelligent to say, would you?

Posted by: Kathleen on April 8, 2006 11:45 AM
20. Joseph and Kathleen;

Where was your favorite justice on the Miller Decision? How about on the WEA's ability to take funds from Non-union memebers and spend it on a highly partisan political agenda without their permission? tick.tick tick.

Posted by: Smokie on April 8, 2006 11:45 AM
21. correct me if i'm wrong here, but wasnt he in the dissent with sanders? maybe he was busy being the deciding vote that kept the death penalty in Washington

Posted by: Kathleen on April 8, 2006 11:48 AM
22. You wouldnt be one of those people who slings mud or makes dispersions because you dont have anything intelligent to say, would you?

I think you mean "aspersions", not "dispersions". In any event, perhaps you and/or your husband could clarify his earlier claim -- please list the decisions where you believe that Alexander took the "conservative" position.

25. Groen would be a definite upgrade from Alexander and I wholeheartedly support his candidacy. However, Alexander is nowhere near the biggest problem on the court -- he is a very good man, he is well respected by everyone on the court (including Sanders and Jim Johnson), and he often does vote the right way. By comparison, Owens, Fairhurst, Madsen and Chuck Johnson are all far worse.

Alexander's biggest problem is that he always tries to do what he thinks is fair, regardless of whether that actually comports with the law. That's a serious problem, one that will hopefully be addressed with his defeat this fall, but it serves no purpose to go overboard in criticizing him. Save that for Justice Owens. =)

PS -- the reasons why nobody has stepped up to take on Chambers are twofold: (1) he's loaded, so taking him on could be a very expensive proposition, moreso than Owens or Alexander, and (2) he is a genuinely thoughtful judge who often votes correctly (unless some of his trial lawyer pet issues are in play -- then he's as results-oriented as anyone).

26. First time post....

I agree with those who observe that we could do far worse than Justice Alexander. But I'm excited by the idea of a new conservative stepping up. I only wish that Justice Alexander had stepped away from the bench to allow us to properly choose a successor this year, rather than aiming for part of one more term with the governor in 2011 giving us his successor. I mean, it is true that we will be able to try to elect someone for a full term only a year later, but whomever it is will have the advantage of incumbency. If only for that reason, I think it's time for us to move on with a new conservative justice.

One more comment....I am also very excited by Senator Stephen Johnson's candidacy for the state high court. I know him personally (interned for him during the 2005 legislative session), and he will make a great justice. Then our trick will be keeping the Justices Johnson straight...

27. What about Bobbie "bob and weave" Bridges? She needs to go as well.

Posted by: Smokie on April 8, 2006 06:42 PM
28. So instead of actually addressing my thoughts and comments, you chose to respond by pointing out that i mispelled a word. Oh and your mate asked why were werent there to respond (it might have something to do with living my life). So I didnt here any response to Alexander's vote to keep the death penalty or his vote in State Ex Rel Public Disclosure Comm.v. Washington Education Assoc. What about Aba Sheikh v. Choe or CENTRAL PUGET SOUND REGIONAL TRANSIT AUTHORITY, Respondent, v. KENNETH R. MILLER. I believe one of your postees thought Alexander voted on the wrong side in Miller and Public Disclosure Comm when he actually voted in favor of the conservative cause. Next time, research before you make a statement; know what your talking about before you disparage a highly respected jurist.

Posted by: Kathleen on April 8, 2006 06:51 PM
29. Please tell us what the "conservative cause" is and how Justice Alexander is a champion of it. What is the right side? Do tell. We are still waiting for you to live your life and document the 13 out of the last 16 decisions that you have felt are in keeping with the Conservative Cause. And since you are the arbitor of all things liberal and Conservative from a judical perspective, tell us why the other three were not conservative positions? You are on a roll keep going.

31. Joseph,

I know enough about Alexander to arrest him for any of a number of felonies and I will be doing so on May 9, at 1:30 pm.

He knows it, the AG knows it, and so do the Thurston County PA and sheriff; as well as the WSP.

One would think that threatening a judge, which is a Class B felony, would earrant some contact; but none of them have contacted me. Why? Because they know eveything I allege is true. I doubt they will arrest me, but that would be OK because there are about 150 people who do not want me to question them under oath in a court of law.

32. smokie,

If things go as planned, she'll be gone by the end of the year; maybe by September.

33. He who obtains the most campaign money wins the election for State Sup. Ct. Justice. That is how these races have been shaping up.

In the Alexander/Groen contest, Alexander probably will win because he will be getting LOTS of money from "democrat" sources. These sources include organizations and their members such as the D. Party, and the State and Municipal Employees' Unions.
