Mrs. Gregoire confirms most felons vote Democrat

As Matt just mentioned, a King County judge ruled that felons should be allowed to vote even if they haven't paid their financial obligations. [The Secretary of State website has the ruling here] The Seattle Times notes:

In a written statement, [Mrs. Gregoire1] said that convicted felons still have a responsibility to their debt, but that "once they have served their time, withholding certain rights due to fines becomes a virtual debtors' prison."
Why would this woman advocate for the reenfranchisement of vicious predators who fail to pay restitution to their victims, unless she was convinced that most of them would be voting for her?

1 Judge Bridges ruled that 1,401 felons voted in the election which Mrs. Gregoire supposedly won by 133 votes.

1. Queen Christine should tell us something we DON'T know!

Posted by: Libertarian on March 28, 2006 09:20 AM
2. 1 If we lose close elections
a) Governors race in 2004
b) Monorail initiative in 2002
c) US Senate race in 2000
because the opposition did a better job of "getting out the vote", then that's our own fault.
2 But to lose close elections because
a) voter registration at a county level is in shambles
b) dead people vote
c) duplicate votes from individuals in the same county or from different counties
d) nonresidents of Washington State
e) non US citizens
it just absurd.
3 You're going to have a certain amount of duplicates due to people moving and forgeting whether they are registed to vote.
4 But a "world class" county election departments and Secretary of State's office would catch the duplicates and resolve them on a timely basis b4 the Primary and November Election.
5 I consider myself a Rockefeller Republican (conservative on defense and liberal on social issues), but I'm totally disgusted by the Tweedle DeeDee and Tweedle DeeDum attitudes of SoS Sam Reed and KC Prosecutor Norm Maleng

3. Exactly. David Goldstein often argues the same thing, that somehow, once a convict has left prison, they should be allowed to vote. But if there's no incentive to pay one's restitution, etc. then will a convict follow through with all of his / her obligations to society?

And what of our continual lessening of punishment and coddling of any victim class, even criminals? What message does it send if when you get out of prison, you can declare bankruptcy, skip your debts, start voting again, and ignore the judicial process in general.

The concept of relative degrees of punishment, restitution, responsibility, wealth, hapiness, etc. is foreign to progressives. They think they can simply legislate or tax the outcomes that they desire.

4. What has owing restitution for a crime got to do with voting. Once the felon has done time for his crime...he should be able to vote even though he's got a bill to pay.

5. Tweedle Dee Dee:

first of all, hats off to you for a VERY appropriate alias.

second, I totally agree with the notion that once someone has done their time, they should be able to vote. HOWEVER, if paying restitution is part of their punishment, then if they haven't finished that, they really HAVEN'T done their time, have they?

thanks for playing.

6. 1 If we lose because the other side got more voters to the polls, it's our own fault, and we desrve the government that was elected
2 If we lose because the voter registration files at the county level and the state database are a FUBAR and our elected officials and party officials refuse to take any corrective action, then it's up to use to get involved.
3 I saw an article in the newspaper that The Evergreen Freedom Foundation is having a Voter Integity Project to fix this mess.
4 US Attorney John McKay intially responded favorably to our own Enron, the UWMC/Harborview King County Hospital Medicare Billing Fraud, but was essentially duped in settlement negotiations.
5 US Attorney Chris Christie and the Democratic Acting Governor Codey and newly elected Governor John Corrizone (former US Senator and Goldmen Sachs Chairman & CEO) said this is not acceptable.
6 UMDNJ now has federal oversight from a retired federal judge and US Attorney
www.umdnj.edu
7 Unfortuneately we need the same thing in Washington.
8 The situation is worse than what happened in The South and resulted in the enaction of the US Voting Rights Act which has Federal observers overseeing State elections to prevent irregularities

7. Really so do the people on welfare! Yes the never ending bleeding hearts!

8. (1)

It should be noted that Judge Bridges ruled that if he was to reduce votes based upon a statistical analysis of felons voting, that Dino Rossi would have lost more votes that Governor Gregoire.

9. dcat:

I've long said that one of the best reforms we could make to election laws is to prohibit people on welfare from voting. No one should be able to vote to continue picking my pocket, just because they use government to do it.

Posted by: libertarianobserver on March 28, 2006 10:05 AM
10. Silly JDB,

The Judge is as much a fool as you! He didn't support the proportional deduction theory to resolve this, so your statement is irrelevant.

The real problem is that illegal votes were counted and a fraudulent election "validated" by the validators was concluded.

I suppose for you to be convinced that the parties should have paraded as many of those illegal voters across the stand to testify who they voted for would have satisfied you when we found 133 illegal votes for the illegitimate Queen.

You obviously are happy with being hand feed the bull your Government feed you.

11. Green Lake: If there are federal observers overseeing irregularities in state elections, WHERE ARE THEY in regards to our state? I haven't heard of a peep so far, and the evidence is piling up daily.

12. Nice try to twist the situation.

This is about basic rights and the constitution...something you *claim* to support.

But when it comes down to it, you don't. Just like simple majority (you prefer No voters's votes counting more than Yes voters's votes -- that's pretty unconstitutional).

No worries...this is just another example of the extreme right wing idiocy that has permeated the republican party. At leat one republican had the *guts* to call it what it is -- that would be Rep. Tom.

He's got the ethics and the morals the rest of the Republicans are leaving behind.

13. Stefan, about restitution, will you call for the Kings of Adelphi, Enron, Worldcom, Tyco...etc. to fully pay restitution for the huge $$ they took from employees, shareholders and pensioners?

What, no?

I wonder what the difference between a destitute person who can't pay for basics and a crooked gazillionare who you won't even ask to pay....

Ah...never mind...flashback to Bush's state of the union speech and the special invited guest...I get it....never mind...

Posted by: Lovinusa on March 28, 2006 10:29 AM
14. lovinUSA--
I'll take the bait....
ABSOLUTELY the Enron, WorldCom et al Corporate Crooks should pay full restitution, which INCLUDES all fines levied. They should not be allowed to vote until they do the time, pay fines and restitution.
ABSOLUTELY!
You see, restitution & fines ARE part of the penalty.
The debt to society is not paid until ALL debts are paid.

This is getting to be absolutely absurd.
It will be interesting to see where this goes on Appeal.

15. Mr. Cynical,

Hooked!

You forgot...the reason the fines won't be real (real in terms of truly providing restitution) is they all buy the BEST POSSIBLE lawyers (remember, you hate them).

Remember how you felt when Michael Jackson got off? Or OJ? All those "buy the lawyers" comments?

SAME EXACT THING HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

17. When Mr. C does first, I will.

Personally, the hypocrisy of this website keeps me pumped....if Stefan became fair minded, balanced and equal handed...my excitement level would go way down.

His partisan, uneven, unfair and, frankly, irresponsible blogging has to be continually challenged. Otherwise, people would start believing the drivel. Course, it does keep my blood pumping....

18. Where is Mrs. Gregoire's equal concern for military voters?? I never heard or saw her argue against the disenfranchisement they suffered when they got ballots late, etc.
Maybe I shouldn't hold my breath.

Goodness, the people of this state cannot WAIT to vote this woman out!

19. You got that right! M

20. There is only one way to determine how the vast majority of felons actually vote. Measure the zeal by which side is fighting to restore their voting rights by any means necessary, and which side is trying to uphold the law.

Posted by: Palouse on March 28, 2006 11:37 AM
21. Every time this comes up it totally amazes me that you all lose sight of the fact that probably 70 to 90 perecent of felons are democrap voters in the first place - after all that is the party of the legal pick-pocket and big give-away -- the Robin Hood syndrome

Posted by: Bill on March 28, 2006 12:36 PM
22. Just think of the possibilities! Child Molesters/ Sex offenders who have not made restitution can vote on "One Strike and your out" initiatives and whether or not they can live next to day cares and schools. Great idea Christine!

23. "His partisan, uneven, unfair and, frankly, irresponsible blogging has to be continually challenged." luving something

Who says? You?

You haven't made a sound, reasonable argument since you've shown up here. But I guess that's to be expected from a sanctimonious lefty who doesn't know half as much as he/she thinks he/she does.

But yeah, keep that blood pumping with your self-righteousness, and I'll keep laughing at your ignorance.

24. I agree... the moment the sentence is completed, convicted felons SHOULD be allowed to vote.

Of course, restitution IS a PART OF THE SENTENCE. Therefore, ONLY once the ENTIRE sentence, INCLUDING restitution, is completed should the “sentence” be considered completed.

Maybe if the Queen had ever been a criminal victim needing restitution, she might have a different perspective on the issue.

Criminals have no rights!

Posted by: dcat on March 28, 2006 05:13 PM
26. One of Gregoire's biggest new voter blocks will come from the group:
"EX-CONS WHO FAILED TO MAKE RESTITUTION & PAY FINES FOR GREGOIRE"!!!!!

Hopefully Gregoire will put this ENDORSEMENT on every single one of her Campaign Brochures.
I tell you what, if she doesn't...........
WE WILL!!!!!!!!!!!!

This one is a COMPLETE LOSER for the Dems.
When people see what some of these criminals have done to others, the light sentences they received and PRECISELY WHAT THE RESTITUTION IS FOR.......
You will see these LEFTIST PINHEADED KLOWNS running back into the darkness of there holes like a group of CONTORTIONISTS!!!.

27. The Gov. just wants to set it up for the next election because she is under the belief that it may be close, so she is trying to help the Demoncrat machine to pull off two stolen elections in a row. Her motto - give us your pedophiles, illegal aliens, rapists, thiefs and even murderers - we need your vote in '08 !

This resembles Barry Bonds - if he breaks two HR records of distinction - first Babe Ruth, then Henry Aaron, when any intelligent baseball fan knows that these records are fraudulent - enhanced by steroids, whereas Gregoire's election was enhanced by illegal votes that were effectively stonewalled by the Demoncrat machine.
