More praise for Toby Nixon

Saturday's King County Journal has a favorable profile of Rep. Toby Nixon: "A Nixon that Democrats actually like: Kirkland Republican says he isn't bound by conservative line". Actually, from what I know of Rep. Nixon, his philosophy, like mine, is consistently small-government conservative. I think it might be more accurate to characterize his differences with the national Republican Party as occurring when the Bush administration departs from a conservative position.

In any event, it's quite a flattering article. The only criticism it could come up with is that:

One insider in Olympia describes him as a ``virulent partisan'' when it comes to election reform.
And this should be taken in context. Nixon is a principled advocate for fair, honest and transparent elections. If I had to guess who called him a "virulent partisan", I would wager that it was someone like a Sam Hunt, who would be peeved that Nixon is actually trying to make it harder to get away with election fraud.

2. er I mean my ballot screw up from the screw off's!

3. Perhaps it was his excellency.....errrr I mean his Mediocrity.....the Right Reverend Don Ron Sims King who called Toby a virulent partisan!!

4. I bet it was Jeanne Kohl-Welles who called him names. He probably had to call her a few choice words too many times for her liking.

5. Toby Nixon is my state representative in the 45th Dist. He's absolutely standup on every issue of importance to "right" thinking people. He more than makes up for Bill Finkbeiner and Larry Springer.

7. beware of any non-doctor using the word "virulent"--it usually preceeds some pithy PC pitch or other half-arsed issue awaiting an axe-grinding by the objector; in this case, yes--kill the messenger;

8. I receive the Journal and I agreed with your first paragraph. And I too thought it was wierd to read that he was 'virulently partisan' when it came to election reform.
What we now know is this: being virulently partisan about election reform in Olympia currently means that one is against election fraud. And since that's the definition of such in Oly, then count me in too! I AM virulently partisan when it comes to election reform. Like Toby, I'm against election fraud, too.

9. Fidel Pelz is quoted in today's Seattle Times article by Postman (from the Deaniac Rally in Lacey yesterday):
"The Democratic Party rules Washington state," Pelz said in warming up the crowd. The party holds the governor's office, most of the statewide offices, a majority of the state House and Senate, a majority of the U.S. House delegation and both U.S. Senate seats."

What Postman failed to quote was Komrade KPelz' solemn pledge:
"I promise all of you, my fellow KLOWNS, that I will change all of that very soon!!"

Posted by: Mr. Cynical on February 21, 2006 06:04 AM
10. Postman also failed to include this quote from Howard Dean:
"Komrade KPelz is the right person to f*ck up a sure thing and lead Washington Dems to the land of irrelevance. And I ought to know. That's why they hired me to be the National Chairman"!!
Aaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrgggggggghhhhhhhhhh!

11. What in the world is a small-government conservative?

I have heard of fiscal conservatives, but social liberals, and I couldn't figure that one out, either.

I have heard of compassionate conservatives and the Dems can't figure that one out.

Isn't a conservative a conservative?

12. And then there is the "crunchy" conservative as spelled out by an author- Rod Dreher- and highlighted on Opinon Journal

http://www.opinionjournal.com/la/?id=110007996

That is "crunchy" as in granola.

13. I had the opportunity to meet Rep. Nixon prior to the session to chat about Shared Parenting.

This guy is an absolute GEM! Quick study, asks the right questions, no bullsheyt, straight shooter.

We need to clone him. Almost enough of an incentive to move to the Eastside.

The Geezer

14. Yeah, well Rep. Toby Nixon is also BTW one of the bright stars of the Washington Coalition for Open Government, a truly sound institution.

I should know. I'm a member.

15. Let me get this straight 1,200 partisan democrats meet in Lacy (Gateway to Olympia)to support Howard Dean and his ideals, sort of like going to Mecca. How many took the Bus/Sound Transit to the event? How many will claim some form of expense related to the trip and go for reimbursement from the State/Government agency they work for? Did they take their work vehicles ? I know they were "Off" for presidents day, but auditing minds want to know.

16. just wondering--
Good news....the majority of people at the Dean Rally were lifestyle unemployed hobo's. A bottle of T'Bird or a 40-ouncer was used as bait to pump up the numbers for Howie's ego.

Many LEFTIST guv'mint workers are both too lazy to work or go to a rally. They are more interested in stealing the Brewery's water right in Tumwater.....or fighting to stop kids from playing tag on the playground!!

17. If you take a close look of a picture of the folks attending that rally, it would be appropriate to conclude that every attendee was required to submit to a 5-minute beatig with the ugly stick!
Also, no one was allowed in who shaved or bathed in the last month....and that goes especially for the hippy chicks!

18. A small government conservative could be substituted as a traditional conservative.
This is clearly different than a neo-conservative - which is a big government conservative, as evidence by record spending and deficits of the Bush administration - argh !!!
With that said, I am definitely behind Toby Nixon.

19. RINO!!!

Posted by: tacoma phlash on February 21, 2006 08:14 PM
20. Neo-Cons may not be RINO's but they are fiscally worse...

Posted by: KS on February 21, 2006 09:48 PM
21. I would not confuse neoconservatism with Big Government Conservatism. Neoconservatism arose in the 70's in opposition to the radical left agenda of the 60's. They were against the massive social programs of the New Deal. Bush does have strong elements of neoconservatism such as interventionist foreign policy, but his spending habits are not one of them.

22. I think this is good news!!
