What the Seattle newspapers are surrendering to

This chilling video of an anti-cartoon demonstration in Paris shows what the Seattle Times, the P-I and most of the rest of the U.S. media have surrendered to. (More at this blog, by way of Andrew Sullivan).

The Times and the P-I don't seem to understand that today's appeasement of demands not to publish the cartoons will only encourage greater threats and demands for more censorship in the future.

1. This generation of newspaper editors was weaned on disrespect - burnt draft cards, Nixxon masks, the Eff -- You -- See -- Kay Fish Cheer at Woodstock, the anihilation of sexual and gender and racial boundaries by any and all in-your-face means, etc.

But ahhh...sensitivity and respect are now the watchwords of the boomer media overlords. Who knew that the Free Speech generation was so spineless when it came to making a stand against anyone other than their own government? They are scared sh----ss. Yes now we know for we see that they have drawn a big fat line for themselves ("We will not cross! We have to go pee now!"). My prediction:

Their deference to jihad Islam will translate into more and more savage denunciations of the Bush administration.

2. Courage is reckoned the greatest of all virtues; because, unless a man has that virtue, he has no security for preserving any other. ~Samuel Johnson

Fancher and by extension the rest of the media lack courage, and any virtue. On the present path they will lose freedom of speech, then liberty itself, and ultimately their heads.

3. I think it is time that "We the People" take the stand to hold the media accountable. They sell themselves as the organization that holds the government accountable, as long as the party in power is not marxist. By holding them accountable we could gather together and not just stop subscribing, which I did some 14 years ago, but now we need to burn their filthy, marxist, rags. The last thing we want is for their papers to end up tainting the respectability of any bird whose cage bottom is lined with the media's idiotic marxism.

Why not?

4. Doug--
Well said...
But in 1939, Burt Lahr may have said it even better.....
Cowardly Lion:
Courage. What makes a King out of a slave? Courage.
What makes the flag on the mast to wave? Courage.
What makes the elephant charge his tusk in the misty mist or the dusky dusk?
What makes the muskrat guard his musk? Courage.
What makes the Sphinx the 7th Wonder? Courage.
What makes the dawn come up like THUNDER?! Courage.
What makes the Hottentot so hot?
What puts the "ape" in ape-ricot?
Whatta they got that I ain't got?

Dorothy & Friends: Courage!

Cowardly Lion: You can say that again.

Mr. Fancher, I ask you this---
What have our troops got that you ain't got???
COURAGE!!!

5. mr. cynical....as usual you nailed it!
i would like to add that what the seattle "papers" don't understand would fill several oceans.
if you don't believe me why not rent "victory at sea" and then insert the newspapers of today into the mix.
the whole world would have been speaking german.......

6. Christmasghost--
Precisely!
One of the many deficiencies by today's LEFTIST PINHEADED KLOWNS (aka Allah's Useful Idiot's) is that have only studied "revisionist" history. You know, pretend history. They enjoy living in the comfort of a fantasy world where they call all the shots and no one will ever hurt them.

7. Remember the refrain from this David Bowie song from the mid-1990's called "I'm Afraid of Americans"....
I'm afraid of Americans
I'm afraid of the world
I'm afraid I can't help it
I'm afraid I can't
I'm afraid of Americans
I'm afraid of the world
I'm afraid I can't help it
I'm afraid I can't
I'm afraid of Americans

9. American news editors have essentially said: "from now on, do not count on us to make any connections between extremist Islam and violence."

Of course those connections will present themselves and the news organizations will go on reporting them but don't expect any kind of overt acknowledgement much less editorial commentary. The editors have posited that Muslims are Muslims first and citizens second. As such they must be spared the brusing hurly-burly that the rest of us undergo.

Friends, has it sunk in what kind of line has been crossed in American civic life this past week? America's editors have just locked themselves in a 3rd teir jail cell and thrown the keys outside. And with no prior reaction from the wider American Muslim community. Based solely on the fears of the various editorial boards.

To cover their shame further look for this kind of reasoning from America's editors: "it's their culture!" Culture, as we all know, is sacrosanct and immutable in leftist thought; you don't tamper with culture, the holiest of holies. Only imperialists colonialists and conquistadors mess with culture and always with negative result. So look for a lot of harumphing about "it is not the place of the city desk to bash Muslim culture," etc...

10. a) To me, in order to form an opinion on something you need to see what that something is... We can't talk in proverbs and abstracts here.

Thanks to Sound Politics for posting the 'toons.

b) Republican Radio had this weekend the leader of Muslims for America - good listen.

11. Stefan,

Now what some witty political cartoonist must do is present a totally blank cartoon square with the caption underneath saying:

"Mohammed, the Compassionate, the Merciful"

Then we'd be in for a whole other s--t cycle this time for hinting that Mohammed doesn't exist. Once you cave into religious sensibility there is no end to it.

12. I would say that people here need to send emails or letters to the editors of the Seattle Times and possibly the PeeEye (but they are pretty far gone) and let them know this. This is beyond revisionist history - this is like the stuff that promoted WWII in Europe - the same wussified stance on this. These people need to be hit over the head with a 2 X 4 until they get it - the 2 X 4 can be phone calls and other communications to express displeasure at their attitude. The marketplace will have to force their attitude to change otherwise they'll keep up the same old PC crap.

Rather than being pi**ed off and writing about it - hit whoever is surrendering - they need to be smacked.
Show them where the outrage is !

13. The English left were afraid of angering or insulting Hitler leading up to WWII.

One concession to Hitler's early demands was to never allow Churchill to be prime minister.

The best way to placate these terrorists is with the hardest kick in the nose ink and paper can deliver.

14. Andy,

It's either going to be the hardest kick in the nose ink and paper can deliver, or the hardest kick in the nose that the vast array of American weaponry and technological might can deliver. The Muslims and the Lamestream media seem to be encouraging the latter.

15. This whole cartoon brou-ha-ha is the most important thing to happen in the War on Islamofascism since Bush went to war in Afghanistan and Iraq. I suspect that overall the free Western press will NOT capitulate to the head-cutters. We love our liberty too much.

16. And forgive me if this seems off topic. But I learned a lot more about American spirit and how to defend it today from a red-haired, pimple-faced 19 year old snowboarder than I ever have reading anything written by a newspaper editor.

Americans value heroes that show courage and dominance under pressure. You won't find any of that in the still stoned 60s liberals running the lamestream media.

17. Jeff B.,

that's nice, but we absolutely need a free press. Jocks don't really do that much for us.

Posted by: Manco_Dollars on February 12, 2006 11:32 PM
18. You are right, we do need a "Free" press. That's where the Blogosphere comes in.

20. I looked at the video (with the sound off) and expected to see the counter protesters get bashed. Didn't happen -- thankfully! At the hands of the American left, those counterprotesters would have been pulverized. Please follow this link:
