Sewer of Corruption (XIV)

Another egregious "emergency clause" was attached to HB 2475 "Requiring collective bargaining regarding hours of work for individual providers". This highly urgent piece of legislation forces all independent home caregivers who contract through DSHS to join a union, and also designates the governor as the sole bargaining agent for the state. The bill was pushed by SEIU, which was a significant donor to Mrs. Gregoire's1 2004 campaign.

1 Fresh discoveries of illegal votes cast in King County in the 2004 election are still an almost daily occurrence.

1. sharks please forgive me for being off topic…but in a way, it ties in…

tonight the voters of tacoma rejected both school levies and the tacoma dome remodel again…

the only sad news is that only 25% of registered voters went to the polls!!!

tacoma’s mayor billy bumble was strutn’ his stuff at the tacoma city council meeting like a cat that just swallowed a canary...touting how they were going to spend the money for the dome…”a sure thing this time”…”there is no way we can lose”…”we pulled out all of the stops on this one”

maybe they will get it with this vote!!!

2. Of course this bill would have an emergency clause. Our fradulent governor thinks she will get a second term and this is a perfect way to raise those campaign dollars. After SEIU failed to make Swedish give in to their ridiculous demands, they decided to enlist the aid of a fellow communist to use government regulations to force people to join unions. Keep it up, comrades! You're going down in flames in 2008!

I am sure they are going to try to regulate the blogs and other sources of information as one of their next attempts. Have you heard anything along those lines yet, Stefan?

4. Have they no shame at all?

Is this merely a sign that Mrs. Gregoire knows she's a one-termer, therefore she's ramming as much of this down our throats while she can??

5. In order to keep breathing and eating, I am going to have to collectively bargain on your behalf.
If you would like to eat or breath, you must send 10 dollars per month to me, otherwise you will be forced into a vacuum chamber with no food.

8. Is there a pattern emerging over the last few years?

ANYONE that contracts with the State in ANY manner will soon be FORCED to join a union or lose out on a State contract?

The State is no longer run by "We, the People", it is being turned into "Us, the Unions".

9. SEIU hosted Fidel Castro at a event in New York during the 2000 Millennium Conference.

My wife works in a hospital and we have to deal with these yutzes on a continuing basis.

They are a communist front organization. Pure and simple.

Gov. Gregoire is bending the public over so a bunch of commie can take it too us.

What ever happened to "Choice" and the "public discussion" regarding legislation.

OH! I forgot the Queen knows what is best for us.

Excuse my while I drop trou and bend over.

10. That home care provider stuff isn't that lucrative. I can see a mass exodus of home care providers who do provide a service to society.

I thought it funny/humorous/cynical that the Gregoire is the chief negotiating agent for the providers and at the same time she is writing the budget. I suppose, though, "conflict of interest" isn't in Wikipedia.

11. Let me get this straight.

Home daycare folks, although possibly underpaid, are independent business persons. They can, or can not, provide their services to the public )or the state) at a price.

The market sets the price, not the provider of the service. If folks want (percieved) higher quality, more staff, more toys, better food, then they pay more.

If not, then not. If there is demand, new folks will enter the market. If there is no demand at their price, businesses will leave the market, creating scarcity and driving up the price--if I remember my economics right.

Low barriers to entry in this biz........maybe a fire extinguisher and some cabinet locks.

So, without signing cards, or any sign that state paid providers want the union, the union on its own co-opts these independent business people to pay them to play in the market?

The Geezer recalls when it was like that in the 50's and 60's in Silly Seattle. Except instead of paying the union goons, you paid the blue-gunned thugs.

Same principle, different players.

I wanna barf.

The Geezer

12. The people that are forced to join unions shoudl attend union meetings and disrupt the p*ssout of 'em! The unions may get the money, but the people who are being forced to contribute ought to make life a living hell for union leadership.

16. If we can get Unions out of our state government, then we can do double the road work that the new gas tax is going to pay for. Well maybe not double but at least 1.5x.

Before Unions ran the Governors office, it was in shambles and now it's going to be even worse.

17. Hang on to your wallets, the 9 billion dollar net worth owners of the Sonics are now goint to get 200 million of hard earned tax payer money out of this legislator.. Extortion at it's finest. I wonder if it will be an Emergency?

Posted by: GS on February 8, 2006 11:24 AM
18. Ok, so if I read this correctly, they are being forced to join a union, the governor represents them in collective bargaining (I thought that was what the union was for, but I'm a bit confused about this part) and it is illegal for them to strike?

WTF!

19. I was hoping there would be more comment by now.

So, when I first read "care providers" I thought long-term health care as the law was written. But then, hey, I am a foster care provider. They give me $300 for 24/7 care plus childcare. Do they want me to join a union? They can take the job and shove it, if that were the case.

So, it turned out to be long term care.

But, in our Brave New World that even conservative Republicans are joining, when will they start asking me to join a union? It is a lesser leap than twenty years ago when same sex marriages were proposed.

20. Don't forget about the $150,000 SEIU national gave to the WA Dems for Gregoire's recount.

22. First the government employees and now private employees. Any industry that receives any benefit from Washington State is vulnerable to union serfdom. The benefit may be in any form what so ever possibly including professional licenses. Real Estate come to mind. Sound far fetch?
I doubt it.

Long live the Queen.
