Richard Pope has filed a complaint with the Attorney General and Public Disclosure Commission against former King County Councilman Dwight "Cuba" Pelz, alleging numerous campaign finance reporting violations.
Pelz is the front runner for the Washington State Democrat party chairman, a role for which campaign finance violations seems to be an unwritten part of the job description. Pelz and the WSDCC have not yet responded to my e-mailed requests for comment. I'm also contacting the offices of Mrs. Gregoire1 and Sen. Murray, who have endorsed Pelz, to see whether or not they still want to endorse a campaign finance violator to lead their party.
1 The haughty, French-named, Massachusetts-style Democrat, on whose behalf Pelz illegally certified an election in 2004.

Yes, they do, the Dem's know that they are above the law when it comes to campaign finance laws. Look at what the WEA has been getting away with the past few years! Look at the trouble that Maria Can't-vote-well got into around the time she "won" her Senate seat. Look at what the Dem's think about Hillary's campaign finance problems in California and her fundraising person being convicted.
If and when Mrs. "I-stole-the-election-fair-and-square-cause-the-judge-said so" answers, Osma-Mama Murray of Vancouver school speech fame gets back to you I am sure they will say the Dwight Pelz is just fine even. If there is a problem, it is Dwight who is the victim of this Republican vast right wing conspiracy witch hunt.
How said it is to see how low the leadership of the Democratic party has sunk.
Posted by: Bob on January 27, 2006 05:11 PMDo you think this claim is accurate? It seems to be correct... but I still have my doubts.
If this claim has merit, then Richard Pope may have just handed the Democratic leadership to Ruderman.
Very interesting.
Gerald
Republicans seem to have a problem with timing and knowing when to put cards on the table. Another question to ask is how significant are these charges ? Chances are, the Dim-dem leadership won't flinch unless it has a good resemblance to Abramoff.
Posted by: KS on January 27, 2006 08:40 PMDon't torpedo him till AFTER he gets the job.
Posted by: Cliff Smith on January 27, 2006 11:19 PMThe Republicans are too afraid or too lazy to do the same level of grunt work. I have seen Republican lists in my City that are so bad. Corrections have been sent in and you get back the same bad lists. Frankly, I just gave up.
If the Republicans spent the next 6-8 months cleaning up THEIR database, knowing who the real GO-TO Republicans are....they would have a chance. Once you have the list, you need an Army to follow-up on it and make certain your folks have voted. This isn't rocket science. The Dems beat the R's in the trenches!! As it stands, the advantage of the Voter Registration Pre-Polled Database is huge for the Dems.
Posted by: Mr. Cynical on January 28, 2006 07:57 AMI don't know about Benson, but few Republicans will actually bother to argue Roach isn't nuts.
The difference? Roach isn't going to be State Party Chair anytime soon.
Posted by: Cliff on January 28, 2006 10:38 AMMORE “ACTS OF REPUDIATION” AGAINST CUBAN DISSIDENTS
On January 25, twenty members of the Pro-Human Rights Party of Cuba, affiliated to the Andrej Sakharov International Foundation, were holding a meeting at a dissident’s house and suddenly a mob made up with plainclothes agents of the state security, the ‘committees for the defense of the revolution” and the “rapid response brigades” gathered in front of the house and started shouting all kinds of insults, offenses and threats at the freedom fighters.

A valid question to Pelz:
Do you agree with Castro's suppression of free speech, human rights, religion, and individual liberty?
My opinion is that anyone who would support Castro is unfit for public service in a democracy. The support of Castro and our way of government are incompatible. By supporting Castro you support the suppression of liberty. I would think anyone in a party that "talks" human rights and liberty would be immensely embarrassed that anyone supporting the suppression of liberty would be in a position of leadership.
But then I shouldn't be surprised the democratic party would nominate Pelz, they have been descending into communism for a long time.
Posted by: JCM on January 28, 2006 02:59 PMI believe in the two party system, the European multiparty systems are disasters. But when one party no-longer respects or belives in the system or government it is part of it is hard to take them seriously. The dems tolerance, and even embrace of Castro, Chaves et. al. is just a case in point.
Posted by: JCM on January 28, 2006 06:02 PMPelz will start off FINE as Democrat party chair. Exactly how FINE should be determined by the Public Disclosure Commission in about the next 45 to 60 days.
Posted by: Richard Pope on January 28, 2006 06:08 PMAre you talking about GWB? I thought this was a thread on local politics.
Posted by: Cougar on January 28, 2006 06:22 PMIf you could read you'd see this thread was about Pelz, who place kissy face with Castro.
Now go back to admiring you Che poster.
Posted by: JCM on January 28, 2006 08:02 PMI told them he was the Will Baker of King County, and we all had a good laugh.
Posted by: Ivan on January 29, 2006 08:40 AMIn a related story - his alleged lawbreaking may be a direct result of McCain-Feingold passing. Hopefully the Supreme Court - when Alito gets confirmed will act to repeal this unconstitutional, garbage piece of legislation - a good reason not to support McCain for Pres. in '08 !
