1. Thanks for the heads up!

2. The guy doesn't have a chance.

Sorry, but that's the reality of the situation.

...and your point is...?

4. No offense to McGavick, but I think they need to drop the exclamation point thing on his logo. It's a bit corny.

5. Yawn

6. Hey maybe at his announcement he will let somebody know where he stands on the issues.

I don't know anything about this guy politically and neither does anyone else in Washington

7. And the purpose of his campaign is????

I thought so, too. Make a case against Cantwell, Mike.

Posted by: A Watchdog on January 20, 2006 07:51 AM
8. Well, I know you have to try, but it seems like the very definition of "uphill battle". Quixotic might be more accurate. Here is a guy with very little name recognition other than being a big-bucks CEO of an insurance company (of all things) who has nine months to convince the electorate of a bluer than blue state to throw out a liberal female senator in favor of a white male businessman. Frankly, I don't like the odds. But, with Rossi opting out (for very good reasons) and the others taking a pass, given the depth of the WA GOP bench, it's probably about the best we can do.

9. Cantwell will be handily beaten by McGavick. She hasnt cracked 50% approval in latest polls. McGavick hasnt even started campaigning yet and he is within single digits.

Talk to the Democrap establishment. They know Cantwell is going to lose this time around and they are running scared. She is so worthless she couldnt even keep Mark Wilson (D-Mars) out of the primary. The D's like to talk about the R party not being able to rally behind one candidate when they themselves already have a much better qualified alternative to vote for (oh, and he has already filed!)

10. If McGavick ignores King County and concentrates on getting votes in the other counties, he may have a chance. For a Republican to campaign in KC is an exercise in futility. KC belongs to the Democrats, and the Republicans will never overcome that political bloc.

The only way for McGavick to win is to win the votes from the rest of Washington. KC is a lost cause for him.

11. The only way for McGavick to win is to win the votes from the rest of Washington. KC is a lost cause for him.

That's the hell of it. McGavick can't "win" King Co. even if he does win it. Remember what the 'Rats did with Fraudoire. They just kept "finding" by "coincidence" additional ballots that "just happened" to be overlooked, just enough to make the difference. Wow. Isn't that amazing? What a wonderful coincidence.

12. Libertarian-

I agree with you but please don't forget the large conservative voting block represented on the east side of the lake, but still in KC.

If McGavick ignites these folks and the rest of the state, he'll have a shot, provided we stop KC Elections form finding illegal votes. He needs to go on the attack, show no mercy, tell us what Cantwell failed at/screwed up, and tell us how he'll fix it. He needs to get folks riled up and I think he can do that. He's a very carismatic speaker.

13. McGavick, Mr. Watchdog, has been a CEO of a large company. That in itself puts him in the game against Cantwell.

Cantwell's fight against ANWAR puts him ahead.

But, I don't know if he has "foot in mouth disease" like Murray and most of the Democrats in the federal front. Time will tell.

Posted by: swatter on January 20, 2006 10:28 AM
14. My favorite example of McGavick inserting foot in mouth is when he said that UW and WSU were sucking off the public teat and should privatize. Or when he said we were in a race to use it or lose it with our natural resources. Or how he explained why he takes a paycheck for this month and next month as well as his golden parachute to retire although he is starting to campaign full time - oh wait, he hasn't explained that one.

15. Swatter,

Unfortunately you are wrong about McGavick's
position on anwar. He told Sen.Ted Stevens
that he will vote not in favor of anwar because
in his opinion the issue is a non starter.
Thus happened just a few weeks ago.

Jeffro

McGavick will not be able to ignite the
people on the eastside because they see
him as part of the problem. In fact there
is only one person that can.If you attend
the State republican party meetings next
Friday and saturday you will know who I'm
talking about.

I will give you hint its neither Diane Tebelius
or Fredi Simpson.

16. >>I don't know anything about this guy politically and neither does anyone else in Washington

Maybe McGavick doesn't know where he stands either.
Where is he on Iraq, deficit spending, trade imbalance w/ China, abortion, oil drilling in Alaska, Supreme Court nominations, etc., etc? Isn't "non-positions" or "wrong positions" the reason his friend Gorton got un-elected twice?

Posted by: Barry Nunn on January 20, 2006 12:14 PM
17. Like always, Phil doesn't have a clue -- apparently Senator Stevens calls Phil and gives him the inside scoop. McGavick has spoken at many events in which he takes Cantwell to task for her position on ANWR and how her position hurts the citizens of Washington.

Phil -- do us all a favor and get the facts straight before you spout off.

18. I'm going to try to make the Mt. Vernon event and fling a few Qs McGavick's way. I have an open mind.

In case you haven't figured this out Phil is Susan Hutchinson's spokesperson (and probably more).

20. Phil, Jim, Barry-

I've cast my vote for no one yet and I'll wait until the candidates spell out their platforms before I'll make up my mind. The only thing I do know for sure, my vote won't go to Cantwell and WILL go to the candidate that best represents my beliefs…

Nuff said… ladies and gentelmen, start your engines!

Posted by: Jeffro on January 20, 2006 12:53 PM
21. Jim,

That maybe so but thats not what he told the
seattle times on Nov 16th,2005.

A Watchdog,

I am not Susan Hutchison's spokesperson
or anything else for the matter. Yes its
true Susan is a good friend of mine. But
she can speak for herself. Just like she
will at the State Gop meetings this month.

Posted by: phil spackman on January 20, 2006 01:23 PM
22. Phil,

Susan seems like a really nice person and someone who could someday be a really good candidate. But why is she starting her political career on a race like this - for the U.S. Senate? She seems a little inexperienced, don't you think? Plus, does she really feel she can start this late and be successful? - all without officially filing? I'm just not sure what she's trying to do and how it's helpful.

Posted by: Chris on January 20, 2006 01:32 PM
23. Chris,

Great questions, If you knew Susan you would
understand how she can do this right now.
To begin with your right she has never held public
office. Having gotten to know her pretty well
I can tell you without hestitation that she has
a very good understanding of the issues facing us right now.

What she lacks in experience Susan makes up
for in her ability to get things done and more
importantly her ability to convince others
to do the same.

As for getting started at this point in time.
Ordinarly I would agree with you. However Susan
has spent the last four years raising money
as part of work.More importantly she enjoys
doing it.In short she knows where to go to get
it.

She did some polling back last summer.
Susan was in a virtual dead heat with Cantwell.
The pollster interestly enough says
McGavick can't win. After all of the traveling
around the state McGavick has done it still
puts him in a dead heat with Susan who hasn't done any
to date. This is why the the State Gop is
scared of Susan. And why they have been trying
so hard to keep her out of the race.

A week from saturday Susan will be speaking to
the State committee members at the Embassy
suites in tukwila.Come listen to Susan and you
will know what I mean when you hear her.

24. So far we only have one candidate who is running against McGavick (not Hutchinson who doesn't look to be running).
I love the debate about who is going to be the best candidate for Senator in the Republican primary.
But what's important is that at the end of the day we set aside are differences and jump behind whoever it is that is going to be running against Cantwell in November.
I trust that Mr. Spackman and the other McGavick detractors who have posted here now and in the past will give their full endorsement to the person who winds up winning the GOP primary.

25. That's 8 months from now. We'll just have to see.

Posted by: Republcan In Exile on January 20, 2006 06:36 PM
26. We will give your candidate as much loyalty after the primary that you have to ours in the past.

You can trust in that.

Why wait any effort on a guy who is going to lose regardless? That's the reality of the situation.

28. Prediction from the grassroots --- Mc Gavick will be kicked to the wall by 7 points.

He can't win unless SHE dies in mid campaign.

With all the corruption in congress, and anger at the war, it just means Dems are getting ready like no one would have ever expected.

R's will be running for the exits all over the state.
