Public Disclosure Act appears to be out of danger, for now

I testified at the Attorney General's public hearing yesterday on the proposed model rules for the Public Disclosure Act. As I mentioned the other day, my main concern was to encourage the AG to discard the proposed rules which would permit an agency to satisfy a request for electronic records by producing paper copies of the records. Fortunately, I heard informally from someone at the AG's office that they realized after publishing the draft rules that there more ramifications of the sections on electronic records than they had originally thought of, and that they will be revising those sections in ways that should address the concerns that I raised. I'll look forward to reading the final version of the rules.

Kudos to the soundpolitics readers who sent their comments on the model rules to the AG's office! (All of the comments they received on the model rules are posted here)

2. Wow, some of those comments sounded like they were written by attorneys that don't neccesarily want these changes initiated. One has to wonder why. Hopefully the AG's office can find out what the naysayers, that commented on this, do for a living.
