Diversity, Seattle-style

The Seattle City Council convenes this week to choose from the applicants to replace departing Councilman Jim Compton. The buzzword is diversity. The P-I: "City Council opening draws diverse group"

"I would like to see another woman on the council," said Councilman David Della. "A woman of color, who works collaboratively, has a working knowledge of how the city and City Council works, has demonstrated leadership with diverse communities and can successfully run two campaigns back to back."

As I mentioned earlier, the best candidate for the job is my wife. She would add diversity to the Council, not because she happens to be Korean-American, but because she's a pragmatic centrist while the incumbents are homegeneously hard-left and hopelessly impractical. Unfortunately, she's not available at the present time and in any event she wouldn't want to take a job where she's hired primarly for the color of her skin and not for the content of her character.

Moreover, Della's protestation that the City Council is lacking in women comes across as hypocritical. If he really believes that, why did he run against then incumbent Heidi Wills?

My favorite candidate in the running is Aaron Shuman. Shuman is currently working under contract at a U.S. Air Force base in Kyrgyzstan. He is also a regular reader and frequent commenter here at Sound Politics.

1. "Della's protestation that the City council is lacking in women comes across as hypocritical. If he really believes that, why did he run against then-incumbent Heidi Wills?"

Touche, Stefan!

Darn, they must hate it when you talk common sense like that! (btw, when your wife does become available, we do hope she'll run for council)

2. Jim Compton is a woman??? Who'd a thunk it? (Or maybe...I'm just reading the council person's response toooooooooooo literally.

3. Having been on the hit side of the "diversity" bandwagon, it is my firm belief that "diversity" is just code for officially sanctioned discrimination against white males. But it gussies it up with an innocuous name, all the while hiding an insideous and malevolent evil. But leftists are nothing if not skilled at providing political cover for those who espouse their pernicious social engineering.

So, to those who worship this false God of "diversity", I say, diversify this.

4. Della couldn't have specified a more EXclusive, predetermined, top-down, do-it-my-way curriculum vitae for his preferred City Council candidate if he were a Politburo member specifying qualifications for Central Committee candidates.

Vote No for Della, next election.

5. Maybe there is hope yet for Goldy. He could be loosely interpreted as a "woman of color."

6. As I've said before, I know Della personally (related by marriage). Nice enough guy, but he's so far up the butt of PC-Think that only his feet stick out.

And he really believes this crap too - that's the scary part.

Of course, you have to wonder about a liberal that just moved to Queen Anne and his wife is lawyer/real estate agent. Considering what capitalist they are, how does that square with their "capitalism is evil" thought process? Of course, when a leftist makes money, that's OK.

7. Don't laugh, Jeff. Orbusmax max had a teaser that Golemsteinhoffen was indeed a candidate. He said he could use the money.

8. Seattle deserves to have goldy on their council. Given how logan runs things, maybe I can vote for him in the next election, even though I live in Bellevue. THink anyone will notice? I'll be happy to find a little mail box to live in.

9. Notice that diversity of THOUGHT doesn't apparently count.

10. So, what color of woman are they wanting--green? white? red? ecru? beige? mauve?
It seems that Della is espousing a kinder, gentler, more progressive racism, where it is okay to *prefer* a specific color of skin over another.
I guess it isn't a racist action as long as it doesn't prevent people of other colors... oh,oops..I guess it is racist after all.

11. Go Aaron!

With a real military veteran on the Council, let's see these pinheads try to diss the military again!

What a load of idiots. If you wife isn't available, how about your cat? Dog? Get a rock from you yard and toss it in the race.

Try to hit Della in the process.

12. and it would help if this "woman" was also a hispanic/black/asian lesbian with one leg [hairy of course],who also 'survived' the holocaust with goldy while living in filthy-delphia..........
diversity......what a joke. seattle wouldn't know diversity if it smacked the city upside the head.
how about a smart republican? now that would be diverse........

13. David KLOWNstein should be able to pass as a "Woman of Color". KLOWNstein is very feminine in his ways....and known for his "colorful" language.

14. Hey guys,

Just wanted to say thanks for the support. As it stands, I am trying to arrange either a video teleconference or having someone stand in my stead and read a prepared statement as it is not possible for me to make it back to Seattle before the 16th. The only other people I've really been in contact with on this matter were reporters from the Times and the PI - and the Times apparently forgot I existed once they saw the "local regulars".

I answered some questions that Jim Brunner asked - namely, what would I try to do for Seattle. My big thing is that Seattle seems to have outgrown itself - infrastructure is not adequate for population density and usage - and that the City of Seattle should focus more on providing essential services. I said that my view is that those services are fire, police, and infrastructure, not $628,000 on "planning transit alternatives". $4 billion on a viaduct to replace - not augment or increase - existing capacity? Come on now.

Anyways, I'll let you guys know what Jan Drago says about my request.
