But the P-I likes him

What a relief it is that this opponent of the First Amendment failed in his attempt to get elected state Attorney General.

1. The Seattle Times endorsed Initiative 276, stating it is a "remarkable measure which would ... force full accountings of contributions to candidates and ballot propositions."

Mysteriously, though, they didn't have to report this endorsement as an in-kind contribution!

2. That's too bad, I met Vaska a few times on last year's campaign trail and he seemed like a nice enough guy. It was apparent, however, that Rob McKenna was a far more intelligent and organized individual and that Vaska was more qualified to be McKenna's administrative assistant. I'm glad the voters thought so as well.

I had the same reaction as Timothy - why don't the Times and P-I have to file endorsements as in-kind contributions? Censorship is a slippery slope, and Vaska is sliding down the roof, clutching at the shingles.

3. Carlson and Wilbur are the same as opinion columnists. The whole ruling stinks, especially considering that the PI and the Times had nothing but anti-912 editorials printed at every opportunity.

4. The point that is missed is that they organized the original initiative before stepping aside. They actually did work on the initiative. If they had just acted as cheerleaders, everything would have been different.

5. Yabbut, when is McKenna going to actually do something about the corruption that is KCE?!!?

6. swatter,

So they should claim contributions for the time they worked on it. Why do they have to continue to pay in order to talk about it? If one day they said 'Let's discuss all the reasons to vote against the initiative' and they took calls from the opposite side, would they then have to report in-kind contributions to the opposition? What's the difference?

7. I know it is a fine line, but I think the fault was when they were the campaign and not just commentators.

Hey, Wilbur and Carlson don't know how they crossed the line, but the other side said it was different and won in court.

8. Scott in Carnation,

Cut AG McKenna some slack, he doesn't have the statutory authority to autonomously investigate King County Elections.

The King County Executive would need to request that the AG's office investigate KCE. Do you really see Sims doing that?

I don't recall if the Governor can order such an investigation. Of course, former AG Gregoire isn't too likely to do so. Therefore, this is a moot point.

9. Vaska is as Red as Stalin, as evil as the Red Coats we left behind, would empty the opposition radio studios as fast as Pol Pot and rape the meaning of the words of any constitution that gets in HIS way.
In bed with a County Prosecutor this out of control looyiiieerrr specifically attacked all of us with a judge as vicious as him. Blather all you want Vaska, et al.
What's next; blogs like this? Wait, yes of course! This is a contribution of some kind in support of someone somewhere that crosses some line that some judge will say has been crossed.
The reeducation camps, the concentration camps, the fields of death and toil have no boundaries in this land but the courts and loooyiers already try and effect the same kind societal reorganization....except they don’t have to burn the bodies.
As Vaska’s total lie piece illustrates nothing, nothing will get between him and his demands including your civil rights. His fabrication of events and adding clever terms and adjectives are Gobbles’ propaganda. Too bad he forgot to explain why Wickham backed off on October 26th. The PDC heard loud and clear…back off commies.
I am glad Carlson said to hell with Vaska and the PDC on his show. I am only bummed we did not get to turn back Vaska when he showed up with his team of 5’-5” loooyiers with a court order at the studio doors! Darn.
Oh the price we all will pay if the Vaska’s continue to be successful in a way our system was never even set up to contemplate nor set up to adjudicate. He throws off our boundaries and casts off any limits; get a judge and a sheriff and do what you want!
The constitution is alive folks! But Vaska and Wickham have their feet hard on its throat!
Now if only honesty and fairness meant I could also get a prosecutor to grant me the authority to seize the records of my enemies, haul them to court three times, block them with false charges from a fake judge now that that would be fair! Mike what about the final 21 day contribution limits you wanted to invoke? Chicken!!! Chicken Chicken!
Unfortunately Vaska and I have different dictionaries so the rest of his piece is just a piece.
See you at Mike’s reeducation seminars with Wickham and Doug McDonald as the TA’s.

10. Yep, I'll take Rob McKenna, thank you.

11. Wow. I cannot believe that he said that.

Good luck at ever running for ANYTHING again as an R. Or heck, a D for that matter. I think most rank-and-file D's know that ruling is BS.

12. 1) Mike Vaska spoke at numerous Republican events in 2004 seeking the Attorney General nomination.
2) I spoke w/a former partner of Foster Pepper. Mike never really spoke to this individual at FP. When Mike chose to run for AG he called the former partner and solicted a campaign contribution acting as if they were best friends.
3) I assume Vaska took the complaint against talk radio because Vaska has a high monthly mortgage and his wife does not work
4) I am more concerned w/ Norm Maleng
5) Both Norm Maleng and Joe Connelly of the PI are pedophile apologists regarding the Daryl Cloud case in the Seattle School District
6) Malengs office falsely accused a contractor of breaking and entering. Instead of apologizing and paying for the falsely accused persons attorney fees, Maleng denied any wrong doing.
7) In the 2004 and 2000 voter fraud cases Maleng was the silent

13. Well, goodness! Let's just take a look at the facts here: Mike Vaska works for Foster Pepper and who does Foster Pepper have as a big client?

Why, the Association of Washington Cities of course! But I'm sure Mike has no axe to grind in the I-912 controversy just because his clients reap the benefits of I-912 failure...?
