Ron Sims in his own words

Here are some sound bites of Ron Sims on the Mike Siegel Show yesterday.

[click on the microphones to hear the sound clips]

Sims says the buck stops with him , so let's hold him responsible for what he says.

Listen and decide for yourself whether you consider this man trustworthy enough to continue to manage a county government with a $3 billion annual budget or to handle a major crisis such as a flu pandemic --

First, Sims said he is proud of the fact that his Elections Office has finally figured out how to reconcile its absentee ballots. He is so proud that he said this three times during the interview . Unfortunately, the unreconciled absentee ballot report was released later in the afternoon.

Sims then implied that the Prosecuting Attorney's Office might have advised them to count both an absentee ballot and a provisional ballot for several dozen people.

Sims interpreted Judge Bridges ruling that "No testimony has been placed before the Court to suggest fraud" is equivalent to proof that there was no fraud. [hint: no such testimony was placed before the Court because Sims kept sandbagging discovery and public disclosure requests while elections officials gave materially misleading statements in depositions]

Sims claims that state law does not allow county election officials to eliminate duplicate voter registrations from people who register more than once. . [A long time elections administrator tells me that this is "fundamentally ridiculous". King County's own procedure manual also contradicts him, documenting the procedure for updating an existing registration when a new form is returned]

Sims refuses to respond to my report that provisional ballots were unlawfully counted from 100-150 people who had returned unsigned registration forms. Nevertheless, he wants to reassure us that whatever the problem was, if there was one, it has been cleaned up.

Siegel asked Sims about the American Center for Voting Rights report that called King County the 3rd worst elections office in the country. Sims said he couldn't find the organization on the Internet. [hint: use Google]

Remember: the buck stops with Ron Sims.

But for all his' faults, at least Ron Sims and I agree that the General makes good barbecue.

1. I was listening to Mike Siegal interview Ron Sims yesterday and eventually had to turn the radio off because of how nauseous Ron’s comments were making me feel. I find it completely incomprehensible that people like Sims ever get elected at all. But then again, this is King County so I should not be all that surprised.

2. Cameron... remember he was appointed by Gary Locke
to take over the machine and he has been riding this county like a rented mule ever since!

3. I heard Sims on Siegel. Did anyone else notice his "Dashel" tone. He was soft-spoken and stayed on course. He talked a lot and said nothing basically. I fear that Logan and his minions have ballots already prepared and waiting for "election" day.

4. Good blog Sharky. It's almost as funny as listening to George Bush's attempts to explain something; but not quite.

5. It is time for the voters of King County to dump Ron Sims into the dustbin of political history. We don't need four more years of his arrogance and horribly poor management of county government. The absolute election fiasco (which continues unabated to the present day thanks to Dean Logan), tent city sitings, Brightwater, CAO, comprehensive plan and other land use policies, transportation gridlock, social service programs out of control, mega-church regulations, etc., etc.
Time is now to elect an alternative to King Ron. David Irons will be an excellent King County Exec.

6. I'm not even a fancy county Executive nor a super-duper Records and Elections Chief, YET how is it that I a lowly one-vote voter was able to easily find the American Center for Voting Rights' website????

8. Shark,

What you should be playing are the Sims radio commercials. Talk about PROPAGANDA, the Seattle Libs are in full ATTACK mode!

If the ads weren't so blatantly horrific, I'd laugh at them. Really-- they are pretty comical. In fact, if I didn't know they were put out by Ron Sims' cronies, I'd say they were SNL skits performed by Iron's himself!

"Martha, did you know that the REPUBLICANS David Irons gave hundreds of dollars to GEORGE BUSH? Yeah, talk about a RIGHT WING-AGENDA, yikes."

Rons Sims and his cronies are stepping in one big crock of SH!T.

9. If Ron Sims is such a bad manager how do you explain the fact that King County, under Ron Sims' management , recently received the highest financial rating that a county can attain? Do you really want to put an abusive loose cannon like Divid Irons, Jr. in charge of a complex entity like King County? Where's your common sense?

Posted by: Apache Fog on November 3, 2005 08:12 PM
10. Are there grounds for a recall, providing that the status quo prevails into next year ? (assuming the unfortunate event of Sims being reelectd occurs) After all, Jim West is being recalled as mayor of Spokane and I believe that once these pending court cases re: aiding and abeting Electon fraud, come to fruition, it would seem that his wrongdoings will have exceeded West's.

There were a half-dozen instances in the five minutes or so - that Sims was deliberately lieing about various laws or the time he said there were only 8 double votes in the primary. Siegel could have done better on his homework - although he asked tough questions that backed Sims into a corner, forcing him to resort to lieing as he slickly does without his feet being held to the fire, but he needs to be confronted. He is debating Irons on John Carlson's show tomorrow - Carlson may be more likely to catch Sims in his patented lies, if not during the debate, but afterwards. Seems like there are too many sheeple in this area who are apathetic and don't use critical thinking when they vote - and prefer being stuck on stupid ! If the latest polls bear out the results, bring on Cascade county !

14. Fog - Sims has made King county more complex with his putrid political correctness and his money wasting schemes and by fostering his sewer of corruption in the Elections Department and the Dept. of Corrections. I have worked for various municipalities in the area and know that King County is a real mess in areas and making progress in others - thanks more to Gary Locke than Ron Sims. David Irons will be able to streamline King County if given the opportunity to do so, and keep the good things progressing - his real record shows that he has the ability to make it right where it is wrong.

That high financial rating is way overrated. When hasn't King County had that rating ? Horses butt is playing up Irons as a loose cannon, when in reality his mother and younger sisters are that way. If you were a critical thinker, you would look at both sides and what he has done politically - not heresay by Goldstein, who is gullible enough to before his mentally unstable mother - and is rather despicable in his musing. He will fire Dean Logan - as should have been done long ago, and then legislative enact County auditor as an elected office, instead of having to resort to an initiative for it, which is in the works.

Bottom line: Don't be stuck on Stupid - we can do better than this - Vote for Irons and sweep this sewer of corruption out to sea

without that tool (from at least as far back as the 90s) they would have a bit of searching to do.

which leads to one of two things... either their office is clueless or the purposefully didn't use them... which would be a real shocker

20. That's alright Michele!

Actually, your point is quite valid - just misdirected. I could understand if someone had a different take on the topic of these threads, and came here to post a rebuttal or at least an alternative viewpoint, but to come here and make statements that are the written equivalent of pulling one's underpants over his head and sniffing the stripe is, while kinda humorous, mostly just pitiful (and rather revolting!).

Fools like half-witz and Headlice (AKA AF) are the intellectual equals of the guy who farts in a crowded theater and then points the finger of blame on an innocent bystander - a true touch of class.

21. You have no answer to my question that makes any sense or is based in fact. To reiterate: If Sims is such a bad manager then how come King County was recently given the highest financial rating a county can attain?

Posted by: Apache Fog on November 3, 2005 09:43 PM
22. "We couldn't find it on the internet." Are we to believe then that it doesn't exist? That is just as funny as the one King Ron let out: Because Judge Bridges didn't find that fraud occurred in King County's election offices, it didn't happen. Like just because the jury found O.J. Simpson "not guilty" it means he didn't do it? What whoppers! I don't mean the kind that BK serves, which I think BK Ron gets too many of.

I mean, when was the last time he got a tie around those chins? Ron Sims is our King County EXECUTIVE (hopefully not for long) and works in downtown Seattle. He dresses like he thinks he is some kind of sotware mogul.

Note to Shark:

Not Google, which regularly skips over anything they think may be conservative. It does, however come up as the first hit on Yahoo's tried and true search engine. Took about one minute!

26. Following Apache Fog's logic about Reagan, just because King County received the highest financial rating, are we to believe that he is a good financial manager ? Pierce and Snohomish Counties also have this rating as does Multnomah County (OR.) In addition, King County has had this rating for the 8 of the last 10 years (the only 2 years it didn't was in '02 and '03, under Sims' regime - during the recession.

You have evaded addressing any of the other assertions that I leveled at him - so the burden is on you to refute with facts about his incompetence. (I won't hold my breath - because I don't see you being able to defend the indefensible)

28. Hey Souix Flatulance (aka apache fog)

If Sims financial management is so good, why is he unable to do more with less tax revenue? Why is it always I need more?

Why is it that his management of the county in several areas, e.g., elections, land use, transportation, bogus-homeless agenda, is so terrible? If we grant you that Sims is a good finacial manager, then that is 1 good and at least 4 bad, and I know the group hear can list out many more than 4.

So should we keep him in office? Would you keep an employee that sucked at everything he did except one at his job? Wait....you'd never be able to answer that cause a.) you've probably never had to manage someone and b.)your to "tolerant" and "sensitive" to hurt the employees feelings.

29. Alpha,

Thanks for the nod - off topic but did anyone else pick up on the status of Shark's "lawsuit?" Sounds like the SnoCo judge caught on to the fact that Shark's "lawsuit" is nothing more than a political stunt and set the hearing over until after the election.
Looks like Irons will have to try to compete on the merits and won't be able to rely on some b.s. slander campaign based on unsubstantiated claims of voter fraud that nobody (including the MSM, FBI, AG's Office, etc...) but the wack jobs cares about. It will be interesting to see if Shark prosecutes the case after the election.

Oh, and the latest forumla predicting Iron's defeat -

Irons = republican, republican = ANWR drilling, ANWR drilling = defeat in King County

Is it too late for Irons to run as a third party candidate?

Posted by: Claire on November 3, 2005 10:50 PM
30. Ahem...You're calling Stefan's assessment of an unsubstantiated claim BS? And you're the same person who's willing to defend David Goldenstain on his personal attack against David Irons?

Be very careful where you tread, Claire, because you're on some very thin ice right now. This is the warning shot across your bow.

31. Uh Claire-

Nice math try, but clearly you are a product of our 'don't hurt the kid's self image' line of public education thinking. Your teachers were too afraid to tell you you're stupid, but I have no such qualms. You're stupid.

32. It now looks like Ron Sims will cruise to another term primarily because he successfully exploited David Irons support for Kemper Freeman's million dollar freeway promotion campaign.

Let's hope this sends a message to Freeman: quit promoting a worn out scheme because it is backfiring big time on otherwise good GOP candidates like Irons and Jim Horn. Who is the next victim?

No doubt we need new roads. But the GOP also needs to be reasonably in tune with the county's voters. This election will prove that Freeman's freeway fantasies don't help Republicans get elected in King County.

33. Sailor,

What the heck are you talking about? I've never posted about Irons beating up his mom. I could not care less whether David Irons beats up his mom. If David Irons wants to beat up his mom that's his business. Why would I care if David Irons beat up his mom?

Oh, and as for your "shot across the bow" - allow me to just say "bring it on" sissy boy.

37. Apache Fog In The Brain:

The fact that King County has the highest financial rating possible has nothing to do with Ron Sims' leadership skills. It only means that King County has not defaulted on any loans in the recent past.

And why would King County go into default? The real estate market is going gangbusters, through the roof, and Ron loves to tax the bejeesus out of his constituents. Higher property values plus higher property taxes equals MUCH higher revenues. Even a trained chimp could keep King County from defaulting in this economy.

Consider this as your smackdown, Apache Fog (the artist formerly known as Headless Lucy). Please come up with another example of Ron Sims' excellent performance that actually has something to do with Ron Sims' performance.

Claire,

We were ALL notified of the status of Stefan's lawsuit - by Stefan - in the previous post on this site!! It's called 'reading', Claire - you should try it sometime!!

Furthermore, if Stefan's lawsuit is without merit, why hasn't the judge dismissed it summarily? The judge agreed to hear the case, just not before the election. It seems that your questions of the lawsuit's legitimacy are denigrating the judge as much as Stefan, neither of which is appopriate.

And what say you about Armen Yousafian's case? You know - the one where he was awarded $300,000 of OUR taxpayer dollars because of the same actions that Stefan alleges? It doesn't bolster your argument that Ron Sims was previously found guilty of the same actions that you claim he is now innocent of.

Rather than trying to trash David Irons and Stefan, you could try listing a few of the reasons that Ron Sims should be elected for a third term, a few good things he has done in the past 8 years. But there aren't any, you know it, so you trash and defame the other side - it's quite telling, you know.

Posted by: Larry on November 4, 2005 08:49 AM
38. Claire... Your right, the reason that you and nobody else cares about Irons Mom is that she has obviously fallen through the cracks of the Mental health system in King County. Yet another failing of the Sims administration. Sims campaign apparently knew of the "illness" of this woman via the contacts between his campaign chair and Goldy. He chose to exploit her for political gain instead of help her get the treatment she obviously needs. Just another example of a heartless Liberal willing exploit anything or anyone to hold onto power. You must be proud.

39. The only way to beat the liberals is to stop spending taxable money in King County, drive north or south to make major purchases, if you can afford to, move out of the county. There are two ways to kill cancer, cut it out or starve it's blood supply, I don't want another one of my hard earned dollars supporting programs approved by Sims, or his lackeys. And I hope Claire and AF get a pair of matching, extremely painful boils, or perhaps pink eye would be more appropriate for our socialist friends.

The simple fact of the matter is that you are willing to call Stefan's claims (which his claims are true) unsubstantiated and, in essence, a smear. However, when it comes to David Goldenstain's obvious smear of David Irons, you go all giddy and happy and label him with Bush monikers.

Have fun with the torpedo at your stern, ya 4-F dropout.

43. When Headlice comments about “the highest financial rating a county can attain,” he is referring to the Standard & Poor's AAA rating. The fact is that this rating means next to NOTHING about the stability of King County's economy. It does however answer numerous questions about Sim's liberal economic game of michery.

Standard & Poor's does not perform audits to determine ratings. All they require is consistent debt service satisfaction. Ratings may be changed, suspended, or withdrawn as a result of changes in or unavailability of such information or based on other circumstances such as information of widespread fraudulent accounting practices and false public disclosures. Public disclosure issues such as those involved with the Yousoufian case involving financial improprieties regarding the Kingdome, Safeco Field, and the new Seahawks stadium, or Rick Hangartner, who requested documents related to Seattle's proposal to build a light-rail system, but were refused such information. Why do you suppose the local courts found against Sims in these cases but never required disclosure? Why do you suppose Gregoire and Sims et al, didn’t specifically ear-mark the latest gas tax hike for specific projects; because they are honest people?
This only scratches the slightest surface of the problem.

If Headlice like his favorite Ron Sims thinks covering up hijinx by subduing honest citizens with clouds of legal technicalities to sell Headlice’s dumb a$$ unwittingly down the road, I understand. Everyone knows that being a liberal means being an idiot, and Headlice comes here to prove it. Apache Fog??? How clever.

The key here is that the County and State are making their payments by RAISING TAXES that are unaccountable and unaccounted for, in order to maintain a positive SUPERFICIAL CREDIT RATING. They can continue to apply funds to debt service that maintain failing socialist programs approved by idiot voters like Headlice and Claire. They appeal under the cynical sensational rubric of trendy concerns about potential "deaths," that will occur if we don't fix the Alaskan Way Viaduct, and then they turn right around and use the revenues wherever they like. The fact that liberal morons like Headlice, Thor(azine) and Claire believe what people like Sims and Gregoire say despite the facts is truly amusing.

Insurer financial strength ratings such as Standard & Poor's do not refer to an organization's ability to meet debt obligations, especially those debts associated with unstable or otherwise unbalanced financial conditions, and they don’t assess regional issues such as taxation and transportation and their impact on REAL economic consequences to all of us as citizens of King County. The reason for this is that default will fall directly on the citizen's shoulders long after Sim's et al are gone. Anyone can get a good credit rating, and if they are an unscrupulous public official like Sims they can maintain it by cooking the books at taxpayer’s expense.

Headlice’s half-a$$ed attempt to bolster inept socialist communist schemes with happy-talk about credit ratings is typical of his usual brainless liberal bull$hit.
