Sewage day at the County Council
The King County Council is convening at 10am Monday to discuss the bogus audit of the Elections Office that is supposed to be released today. But first, the Council deals with a different kind of sewage -- Brightwater.
Tune in to KCTV for the live proceedings.
Lead auditor Ernie Hawkins is now speaking to the Council, still claiming that he performed an "A to Z" management review, focusing on exceptions and errors. How this weasel can say that with a straight face when he didn't bother to look at a single ballot or ballot envelope, is astonishing. Especially after he refused a Councilmember's request to examine boxes full of improperly processed ballot envelopes that were uncovered earlier this month.
Now he's focusing on irrelevant recommendations like "consolidate all your facilities". How would he know whether the facilities situation had any bearing on the ballot processing if he didn't bother to audit the work product?
His only interests in legal compliance is with accessiblity for Chinese voters and disabled voters. Never mind that all kinds of other laws affecting the entire population are routinely violated in King County.
Now he's recommending that King County lobby the legislature to change laws he doesn't like.
The Council spent $300,00 for this foolishness? I want to throw up.
Now he's talking about uncounted ballots that were found after certification. He says King County has fixed all the problems. But he refused to look at the additional uncounted ballots that were discovered a few weeks ago.
One highlight -- Bob Ferguson got Ernie Hawkins to admit that "he hasn't seen a worse" instance of security at an elections facility.
Councilwoman Patterson asked Hawkins whether he knew of any evidence of fraud or illegal activity. He answered that he wasn't, but left out the part that he refused to look at the potential evidence that was offered to him!
Now the Council is discussing whether to hire the Election Center to observe the November election. That would be an unfortunate waste of money.

Hey, if the county can save some money and achieve the election results they want, that leaves them more money to hire private lawyers to defend their wrongdoing. Why stop at a million bucks to defend wrongdoing of employees.
My God, he just said "public trust". In a King County building that could invoke lightning!
2. Wow--talk about a waste of taxpayer dollars. Pathetic, isn't it??
A to Z exclusive of all other letters. Meaning B to Y where not examined.
The council got what they wanted, a whitewash, plausible deniability. They can go up to the votes and say with a straight face we audited KCE and found everything just peachy. Logan is doing a fine job getting democrats elected.
I hope you can get the "Preliminary Draft" and any and all workpapers related to this bogus audit. I'll bet either they tell you they aren't public records....or they don't exist.
It is critical to see the AUDIT WORKPAPERS. They should show you precisely what was looked at in order to render there opinion.
They should also be able to give you a time-record that shows precisely WHO did the audit work and how much time was spent on each audit function.
My guess is there is not much clear back-up data to support their conclusions.
Good luck trying to get a handle on this!
I have to hand it you for having the fortitude to sit and watch Hawkins and the King County council perform this illusion of "All is OK with our elections....so don't look deeper..!" this morning!
I personally can't stand watching ANYONE on the council. Even if it's a member I support - they choose to be impotent in their questioning or are never given ample time by king Larry to make a relevant point! Attempts to ask serious questions are usually interrupted by Gossett trying to interject some racist spin or loopy Julia Patterson - who just slurs on and on about how the question assaults her sensibilities! (Sorry Julia...You first have to be *sensible* to consider this *ability* assaulted..You aren't)
Ernie Hawkins simply fits perfectly in this atmosphere of ineptitude!
My son just got home from school and told me that his teacher was excited about the topic he has chosen for a speech project later this week. He's chosen to discuss King County's election problem and the county's apprarent lack of interest in fixing it.
BTW - Thank you Stefan for your ballot envelope discoveries.
Apparently his teacher was very interested, given that her primary absentee ballot was returned to her unopened, obviously uncounted, and with no explanation.
Gee, how could that happen in this Primary where everything was supposed to have been fixed? I'm shocked!
Let's all vote for the initiative that backs the State Auditor in doing performance audits.
I would love to see a real audit of King County Elections.
I am reminded of how firms like Arthur Anderson "audited" Enron, and other firms. A bad audit that looks the other way is worse in the long run than a truthful audit that makes the client unhappy.
King County has some ugly truths to learn about itself, that just aren't going to happen. That means that the problems will fester until something very very bad happens (yes even worse than this past election).
So far we have seen a whitewashed King County Elections Dept report, two whitewashed citizens advisory committee reports, and now a whitewashed independent audit.
If Ron Sims & Larry Phillips believe these reports, then why is the public and the state voters have so little faith in the election process? Time will tell.
8. the joke on the people continues ! The Aristocrats in control are going to do what they damn well please.
Sims the "Fox" Is still firmly in charge of the KC hen house. With I912, Real performance audits, Sims vs Irons, Logan's potential demise, etc, you can bet these foxes will be scurrying throughout the election house cellars finding all kinds of sacred prey! Once again! It will look very very familiar.
The reason the Primary went well is no one showed up to vote!
The people will be there in November, and Sims and Logan will be back to their same crap. Win at any cost! Count till you win! Quit then!
10. One of the HUGE problems with vote by mail is "chain of custody".
Bottom-line is a ROGUE MAILMAN has access to ballts when mailed by the County and access to ballots being returned.
The fallacy with KingCo not reconciling votes and voters is NO ONE could ever be sure if there vote was actually counted or not. You could have been credited....but not counted.
Or counted and not credited.
You would never know for sure.
As opposed to County's like Jefferson, where they ALWAYS reconcile votes and voters BEFORE certifying.
Impossible KingCo.....My A$$!!!!!
11. In democracy the vote counts, in Seattle the COUNT votes.
12. Stefan good description of what went on during the counsel preceedings.Icould not stomach anymore!!
