"Per Bill H. Prov OK"
Here's an interesting provisional ballot envelope that I found in the Archives today. The signature on the ballot envelope bears no resemblance to the signature on the voter registration record. The note suggests that the ballot was counted, with the okay of Bill H.

1. Kinda makes you wonder how KC will handle the extra workload of all mail ballots. Their record on only 60% is suspect - and I still haven't seen anything that would make me more confident that they've turned the corner.
2. I would like to be the local color commentator on this.
You need to remember that the "Spring time for Sims" Citizen's Election Oversight Committee, was very concerned about the potential number of provisional ballots that would be in the November election and several months in advance of the election put King County elections on notice that this would likely be a problem. They demanded that the Dean and Bill show make a reasonable forecast of the number of provisional ballots and then come up with contingency plans on how to handle them.
It would be nice to provide the Citizen's Election Oversight Committee with feedback in how the provisional ballots they warned the County about were handled.
I am reminded of Sargent Schultz of the TV comedy Stallag 13 fame......."I see nothing!"
Yes, I can just see Bill H saying this was O.K.
If they would count the ballots, I would provide King County Elections with a vote of no confidence, but know that Sims wouldn't act on it.
3. Sorry I meant to say Hogan's Heros fame......
4. I wonder what Bill H.'s quid pro quo was?
5. I'd really like to see Heunnekens answer why this ballot was acceptable. It appears to me that whoever wrote that note did not think it was acceptable and wanted to be clear that it wasn't their idea.
6. Huennekens will not open his gob. Logan will not open his gob. Sims will not open his gob. They will all exert their utmost to keep their festering gobs shut and hope to hell they have enough corrupt observers in place to carry out another elections robbery.
7. Nothing like all mail voting to assure the fraud continues. With People like Bill H, Ron Sims, and Dean Logan we are all in "Good Hands" Not!
8. Shark:
I'm starting to worry about you. You need to get a life. You have a family, children... they need you. Give it up, Dino lost, Chrissy won. It's OK. Life goes on. You will live to fight another day.
Pouring over these ballots won't change the outcome. You have to let it go. We all learned to do that after W's stolen election of 2000. Honest, life goes on..........
9. Perhaps several of the County Council members can draft a letter to Bill "Pencil-necked Geek" Huennekens and ask him to explain this one.
Be sure to cc: Logan, Sims, Seattle Times, Seattle P-I and John Fund @ The Wall Street Journal.
10. Unkl DoofWitz--
Stefan never said he is trying to change the outcome of the election. But I believe it is worthwhile to try and prove future elections by holding those in power over counting the ballots accountable. A simple process, don't you think?
After all, the buck stops with the Election Offical, doesn't it??? Unfortunately, it appears more like the BUCK PASSES THRU rather than stops.
Kinda like Oat Bran passing thru the rectum of a jackass with severe diahrrea...the buck doesn't stop. Hell, it doesn't even slow down!!! It just passes right thru.
11. This is Stephan's Life... Thank Goodness!
12. "Bill "Pencil-necked Geek" Huennekens "
We just can't seem to get beyond names and name calling.
Did any of you "patriots" graduate from Jr High?????
13. Unkl Witz...
No matter what you might wish, there will be more elections in the future. If trying to clean up the elections process offends you, that says quite enough about you.
14. Swizzlestick - the more you jabber, the more brain-damaged you sound. But don't let us stop you.
15. Rich "Witz" Kiker -- This is not about changing the outcome of the last election. It's about exposing the integrity of the process and the people in charge of it, with the view toward improving both. I'm sorry that offends you.
16. Stefan--
Something tells me you ain't sorry at all...nor should you be.
17. Witless, once again your side brings up the election 2000 and claim W stole it. Truth is Gore was the one trying to steal it in selective precint counting. The court just ruled that they have to count them all, if any.
Any comment about the machines in Ohio, 2004?
18. Unkl--what's up?
run out of original material? I thought you a better jouster. As for your comments to Stefan: a phony $20 is a phony $20--no talking it away--illegal is illegal, remember?
another matter--I DO recognize that signature--It's Quiqueg--the native--from the Pequod--must have signed it just before the seabirds became restless; "...'thar she blows!..." and what will tomorrow's election bring? another whale of a tale?
19. "patriot" or "Patriot". That's the difference between democrats like Rich Kiker that know their party is on a huge downslide and proud, confident Republicans like myself.
20. The main conclusion I draw is not that King County elections is screwed up (though there is other evidence of that), but that voting by mail is fundamentally flawed. I can't see how any jurisdiction anywhere in the country can demand better signature matching without discarding huge numbers of valid ballots. Maybe discarding valid ballots would be better, but as a practical matter people would complain about that more than about occasional fraud. Indeed, banks probably would consider these signatures to be a valid match on a check or credit card receipt.
Since people love voting by mail, and people hate having even a few valid ballots rejected, what can we do? Maybe change the law to require mail ballots to be received by Election Day, impose stricter rules for signature matching, and send a form letter to the many voters who fail the match test, requiring them to either mail in a better signature within 10 days (and take the chance that it fails too) or appear in person to prove their identity.
21. The signature on the ballot....That's a signature?? Looks like chicken scratches to me. Anyway, will the real Jessica Ann Tjalsma please step forward?
22. Lovely....
King County has now placed Bill H. in a job teaching the Blind how to vote! Maybe the Blind can teach Bill H. how to read a signature?
This is just so wrong on so many levels....
23. Gee, Unkl, Stefan is just doing what people like Reed and Bridges said we had to do. Remember? Sam Reed said it is up to the electorate to assure honest elections, it isn't his job, he was/is a helpless idiot. Brainless idiot corrupt Bridges said we had to work within the corrupt, dishonest, hopelessly broken down system to fix it up, he sure couldn't do anything about it.
It looks like Stefan is at least trying to do that. And you have the gall to hammer him for that? Gee, you should be thankful he is helping to clean out the rot. That's probably a lot more than the 'Rats are doing, who caused it in the first place.
Are honest elections a priority for you? Your statements suggest they're not.
BTW - Name a vote count in the Florida, in the 2000 election, that Gore came out the leader in. Waiting, still waiting, crickets chirping.........
25. Thanks folks for a very public airing of very dirty laundry.
I made my comment earlier regarding the veracity, credibility, and honorable intentions of the two Republican candidates, and beyond that I voiced no accusations, spread no rumors, or made any associations.
I had hoped that representatives of each candidate would make some sort of official declaration regarding the crap that has been spewed, but, as yet, have not seen one.
What I have seen is readily apparent - go back and reread this thread from the top down.
I can't speak for anyone else but what I said before has been clearly illustrated: "With friends like these, who needs enemies?"
I hope y'all give it a long hard look and then go vote your conscience.
26. Oops! My bad. should have posted at: http://www.soundpolitics.com/archives/005102.html#005102
Now we return you to the previous programming ;'}
27. I would dare to say that this ballot could only be counted in one Elections Office in the entire United States !!! And we all know where that is.
What is even sadder, is that there were probably
hundred and thousands of similar ballots counted and we end up with Queen Christie. Many years ago, I worked in the Elections Office for a large Midwest City. There was not one person of any political party that would have allowed this ballot to be counted. I wish I could show this to those people... They would be astounded !!
28. alphabet soup......
I hate it when that happens! ;)
29. Sadly, we are not surprised. This is just plain willful fraud on the part of KC. Anything can count. Drop a felt tip marker across your ballot and the remaining mark will count as a vote (for the democrat, of course).
30. ..and again, KCE's strategy is clear. Just GET the ballot in---legal or not. And just COUNT the darn thing no matter what.
31. Unkl, you miss the point of what Stefan is trying to do. When you know bad stuff is happening, and keeps happening, some people want to do something about it. Stefan is showing us what passes for 'good' down at KCE, and it ISN'T good. It's fraudulent to count a ballot (as in a previous example) that is signed by someone other than the name on the ballot. It has to stop! It's wrong, and needs to be rooted out. Stefan is performing a public service by exposing the corruption going on down at KCE. The public deserves to know that their tax dollars are funding a highly question outfit down there at the elections office. We want the problems FIXED. Why you don't is beyond the rest of us.
32. Unkl-
Latching onto Michele's post above and jumping on the pile of football players over you & the ball:
here it is simply: Stefan's work is like you going back & complaining that the the grocery clerk tossed the eggs in your bag and busted all of them; you point it out to the manager and have him do something about is NOW; crap work is what it is; so why do some of us tolerate it in voting more so than in a few eggs? You don't want "broken eggs"--neither do other voters!
