Is Rep. Ed Murray angling to upgrade to state Senate next year?
Yesterday's article in The Olympian suggested that he might. The seat is currently held by Sen. Pat Thibaudeau, who is approximately 173 years old. Thibaudeau is possibly hinting that she's ready to retire and let Murray succeed her:
"I think Ed has wanted to be in the Senate for a long time," [Thibaudeau] said. "I think he's a good legislator; it's too bad he's going to give up the transportation chairmanship. That's all I'm going to say about it."Or maybe she's hinting that she knows he'll run against her but that she'll whoop his ass.

Posted by: Timothy on August 31, 2005 11:46 AMOther than that, we're certain to have a super far-left Democrat. I'd just as soon it be a lunatic ineffectual like Baghdad Jim than someone with legislative skills like Ed Murray who has more of a chance of accomplishing part of his agenda.

What a blog...geez.

Posted by: Greg on August 31, 2005 01:37 PMIs that the new term for Socialist which is what McDermott is.
One just has to wonder how many Socialist experiments have to fail before Jim McDermott figures out that Socialism does not work. Or more pointedly, people in a Socialist regime choose not to work. Why should they?
Posted by: JC Bob on August 31, 2005 01:50 PMGeorge Bush is a maniac and running amok? Hmm, that seems strange. What is he doing that is causing so much havok in America? He has made some mistakes in not being more proactive with the military early on in the war, because of worrying about public perception instead of killing those that want to kill us or kill anyone that believes in freedom and peace. He also needs to secure our border, from illegal aliens...so you and I must agree on that cause not doing so is what a maniac might do. He also isn't doing enough to increase our gasoline refinning capacity to help our economy. So I can see why you might be upset with him.
But really, you hate him no matter what happens. I hear it all the time from people on the far left. Hell if he signed the Kyoto treaty (probably something you say you want) you'd bash him. Why is it? Is it because he is a Christian? Do you hate people with a religous background, well except for Islamic terrorists whom you feel for and want to coddle.
Did having Clinton in the White House help us? Did his lack of response to any terrorist threat and action against the US embolden terrorists...YES! Did being "peace-loving" keep us safe from attacks? NO!!
Please remember that I love the fact that you can be free love and lost in your own world, but that other people will have to work hard and sacrifice to allow you to be that way.

In other words, partisanship trumps civic virtue. Better to elect an extremist mope that hurts the other side than a competent representative. (Constituency be damned...)
Now THAT's an inadvertently revealing example of the civic thought at work here...
Posted by: bartelby on August 31, 2005 10:14 PMDid Murrary contact the P-I, Times, Tribune, AP, Spokesman, et al, and only the Olympian's cap press corp responded?
