"Some doubt monorail review can meet mayor's deadline".
Posted by Stefan Sharkansky at August 29, 2005 09:59 AM | Email ThisIt's simple math people. All you have to do is start with the result you think will sell, work backwords from there. then get a dozen "independent voices" to lend "credibility" to your new "research", then launch a PR campaign declaring victory over the problem. Get some shovels, yellow ribbon, scissors and a camera and you're done.
I swear, I'm beginning to lose faith in Seattle "leaders"
Posted by: what's new? on August 29, 2005 10:12 AMDoes anyone doubt that was the intent?
Posted by: South County on August 29, 2005 10:20 AMWe could call it "As The Money Burns"
Spoken like a true consultant where the ultimate goal is not to solve to the problem, but to prolong it as much as possible while generating billable hours.

Both are total loser projects.
Posted by: Marmstro on August 29, 2005 12:09 PMRecapture the taxpayer’s interest and commitment by calling it "mixed use." Hey, all they need is money.
Seattle could do like Ron Sims wants to do on the Eastside and put in a "mixed use" trail/monorail --only cheaper.
“At twice the rate per mile than the monorail, light rail (costs) billions more and that's (considered) OK."
Since a trail on the eastside makes so much sense to justify “mixed use” with light rail, just think of the billions you could save in Seattle.
Trim those savings away and the monorail is a happenin' deal again. A walking trail in Seattle would certainly save the monorail.
As Rich "Swizzlestick" Kiker says, it would create “ a wonderful asset to our . . . communities [sic],”
and besides here we wouldn’t have to “rip out the damned rails.”
As Seattleites, it would be your thing, so . . . [you can] do what you wanna do.
Imagine the natural splendor, good exercise, and diversity. This is a win-win!!
Also, as Kiker intones in his typically clever way, pesky conservatives probably won’t go there because like the Burke-Gillman,
it could be closed to HUMMVEES.
Or would they have to stick to the walkway that our resident buffoon biteme/jdb/Dupe insists will be built along the rails.....

Posted by: alphabet soup on August 29, 2005 04:40 PMDon't get smug and think that all liberals are persuaded by this monorail nonsense. What conservatives stand for is tragic underinvestment in infrastructure and the effects of Katrina attest to that. Progressives desperate to build our society instead of cutting it up into slices and giving it to the powerful (what Republicans are good at) sometimes support daffy programs. What's lost in the struggle is room to debate good programs. The light rail rights-of-way should clearly be used for a dedicated bus/emergency vehicle lane. How much clearer, given the transportation crisis after Katrina, could it be that dependence on I-5 is an unacceptable security situation?
Stop your ridiculous sniping and radical-right politics or your day is done.
