What would monorail reviews do without some?

"Some doubt monorail review can meet mayor's deadline".

1. How tough could it be? They make it up as they go anyway...

2. How long can it possible take to cook the books and get out a favorable report that the PI can tout as a breakthrough?

It's simple math people. All you have to do is start with the result you think will sell, work backwords from there. then get a dozen "independent voices" to lend "credibility" to your new "research", then launch a PR campaign declaring victory over the problem. Get some shovels, yellow ribbon, scissors and a camera and you're done.

I swear, I'm beginning to lose faith in Seattle "leaders"

3. As usual, an "Independent Consultant" (Phelps) hired to evaluate the financing angle has been sipping the kool aid..just check out his quote "the project should be judged on value in relieving traffic congestion"..let's see, 85% of the forecast riders are already riding the bus..hmmm..could it be of little or no value?? Pass the kool aid please, I have a headache...

4. "Some doubt monorail review can meet mayor's deadline".

Does anyone doubt that was the intent?

5. We should write a soap opera about the monorail.

We could call it "As The Money Burns"

6. Phelps said if he can't get the time he needs, he may "offer a qualified opinion" but there may be "a lot of loose language in that opinion."

Spoken like a true consultant where the ultimate goal is not to solve to the problem, but to prolong it as much as possible while generating billable hours.

7. If I was the temp director at $38,400 a month, it would take me a looooooong time to come up with anything. After all I would want to make sure the taxpayers who pay me get the best I can offer.

9. Hey what's new,

You're just now beginning to lose faith in the leadership of Seattle?!?!?!?!?

10. At twice the rate per mile than the monorail, "light rail (costs) billions more and that's (considered) OK," Stockmeyer said.

Uh..../slap.....no.

Both are total loser projects.

11. I believe that the 'story' went something like this: I need to step down as a Tacoma City Council member to care for my ailing parents..... and bla, bla, bla ..... and yada, yada, yada. He saw a big fat duck to pluck up north. ROTFLMAO, as the saying goes, he is a 'good fit' for Seattle. Tacoma has seen it's bond rating go from great to lousy under Phelps, Evans, Ladenburg and a couple others, now that their source of easy money is drying up in Tacoma they are moving on to bigger and better things.

12. Why not do the really cool thing here and show how enlightened, progressive, and shrewd Seattle really is?

Recapture the taxpayer’s interest and commitment by calling it "mixed use." Hey, all they need is money.
Seattle could do like Ron Sims wants to do on the Eastside and put in a "mixed use" trail/monorail --only cheaper.
“At twice the rate per mile than the monorail, light rail (costs) billions more and that's (considered) OK."
Since a trail on the eastside makes so much sense to justify “mixed use” with light rail, just think of the billions you could save in Seattle.
Trim those savings away and the monorail is a happenin' deal again. A walking trail in Seattle would certainly save the monorail.

As Rich "Swizzlestick" Kiker says, it would create “ a wonderful asset to our . . . communities [sic],”
and besides here we wouldn’t have to “rip out the damned rails.”
As Seattleites, it would be your thing, so . . . [you can] do what you wanna do.
Imagine the natural splendor, good exercise, and diversity. This is a win-win!!

Also, as Kiker intones in his typically clever way, pesky conservatives probably won’t go there because like the Burke-Gillman,
it could be closed to HUMMVEES.

13. Amused - Does this mean my kids would be able to use their Big Wheels on the No-N0-Rail tracks?

Or would they have to stick to the walkway that our resident buffoon biteme/jdb/Dupe insists will be built along the rails.....

Kewl ;'}

14. HEY JDH, YOU'VE GOTT IT RIGHT!!!!

Posted by: TACOMA PHLASH on August 29, 2005 04:44 PM
15. Listen you morons,

Don't get smug and think that all liberals are persuaded by this monorail nonsense. What conservatives stand for is tragic underinvestment in infrastructure and the effects of Katrina attest to that. Progressives desperate to build our society instead of cutting it up into slices and giving it to the powerful (what Republicans are good at) sometimes support daffy programs. What's lost in the struggle is room to debate good programs. The light rail rights-of-way should clearly be used for a dedicated bus/emergency vehicle lane. How much clearer, given the transportation crisis after Katrina, could it be that dependence on I-5 is an unacceptable security situation?

Stop your ridiculous sniping and radical-right politics or your day is done.
