Not too bright(water)
You probably already guessed that Ron Sims' Brightwater Sewage Treatment Plant includes indispensible Public Art, but you probably didn't know that it also includes an education and conference center which plans to compete against established private businesses for market share in the conference hosting industry!

1. I wonder if it will include a public swimming pool... ;)
2. At least it will be located in an effluent neighborhood ...
3. Yes, but they will be competing with Snohomish Public Utility District #1's meeting services (http://www.snopud.com/public/facilities.ashx?p=1824).
You all know those wonderful earth loving folks who provide power for 30% more than the evil capitalist pigs of PSE.
Ahhh, I moved OUT of KC to get away from the Sims Stupidity.
4. I plan a lot of meetings every year. I can't wait to suggest this venue to my clients. I'll send a rush e-mail out right now to all of the groups. They'll want to be first in line to book a date! The caterers will probably serve cold effluent soup, followed by grilled e-coli burgers. This is just too good to be true . . . a meeting planner's dream!
5. If Sims thinks brightwater is going to be a great place to hold meetings why doesn't he move his office to the sewer treatment plant?
Tooo many jokes must refrain... Ok I give in, caution bathroom humor ahead.
How about this one:
What does a pipe to brightwater and Ron Sims have in common?
They're both full of sh!t.
Or this one:
what do you get when you put Sim's good home training and brightwater together?
A lot of poddy training!
One more:
What is the difference between sewage and Ron Sims?
Sewage won't lie to you.
hahhaha... I crack myself up, but seriously folks meetings at brightwater what a great idea! Lets try to come up with some marketing slogans for this stroke of genius.
How about:
Brightwater. We can't guarantee your conference won't stink but we will serve you muffins and coffee!
6. Here is more evidence of Seattle's poor management. Seattle has the top honor of being the most Overpriced City in the United States!

Congratulations!
7. Since Brightwater would be in Snohomish county, wouldn't the conference center revenues go there instead of KC? If there is sales tax on the rental, would Ron claim it for KC.
Notice the memo said that money for this was part of the mitigation for the project. How many "extras" are we funding as fealty to the gods of mitigation?
8. A while back the county solicted art for the Shoreline transfer station. You know where you take your garabage to be dumped in big trucks then shipped to Oregon (aren't they lucky). I submitted a proposal for for a sculpture.
A human hand on a pedestal with a rasised middle finger title "Ron Sim's message to the people."
Never got a reply, I wonder why?
9. Personal anecdote from the 70s. A new employee at one of the treatment plants said on his first day he fell into one of the "swimming pools"; he then said that he fell into one again a couple of days later, but he said, he learned the second time and kept his mouth shut when he fell in. True story.
10. My father worked at a sewage treatment plant when I was growing up....that is the last place we need art or a conference. My god Sims is such a jackass. It's time for a flaming bag of sh*t be put on his doorstep.
11. Hmmmmm....perhaps a better marketing tool is needed here. Check out what they are doing in Victoria, hey! (Times Colonist July 19 story by Peter Cowan) Maybe Mr. Floatie can come down and help in this movement.
12. Notice the memo said that money for this was part of the mitigation for the project. How many "extras" are we funding as fealty to the gods of mitigation?
I've noticed all the trucks along SR9 in Snohomish County are from KC department of transportation. I think you're paying to widen our roads. Thanks. :-)
Then there's paying to move the soup plant next door...
13. Mitigation is sometimes the result of a settlement of threatened or actual legal challenges by the community. Since no one wants a sewage treatment in their backyard, the public conference center was probably a necessary concession to get community members to back off of their objections.
A similar situation occured at the West Point treatment plan: King County is paying Seattle Parks and Recreation $5 million as mitigation for the expansion of the West Point treatment plan adjacent to Discovery Park. The money is earmarked for projects at Discovery Park. More here
14. Ya, when the wife and I want to see fine art, we go straight to the sewage treatment plant with a little red wine and cheese.
Jeez, this sounds like one of those redneck stand up things you see on the Comedy channel at 11pm.
15. Art? At a sewage plant? What next? Teats on a bull? Is this the mandated "1% for f-rt" --oops--I mean "art?" Give me a break. Every public building does not need to look like the Louvre. Let's get sensible. No wonder we can't do anything of substance in this region. Too much touchy-feely. Will the plant be painted like some inner city "mural art" too? Another Experience Music Project Brady Bunch bus crash. Where is Peter Max from the 70's? We need a splash!
16. Die, Brightwater, Die.
17. JDB where are you?
What we all need is another vapid syntactic and spelling disaster from JDB expounding his reasons
why sh*t should be decorated.
As a liberal he does it all the time so he would know.
18. I think his mommy is helping him type up another scathing postulation on the evils of something or other....
19. ok, look, I've spent 30 plus years now explaining to these morons that they have got it all wrong. 1% for Art was a carefully crafted effort to line my pockets at the expense of capital construction budgets. For every $1 spent to build stuff in KC, they gotta throw a penny my way.
Listen here Sims, I don't care how cool you think you are because you can dumb your liberal crap in the backyards of Snoho conservatives...I'm Art and I want my money!
20. I like Joes post & slogan for the Brightwater conference however, It might be a good idea to check the muffins & coffee considering where your having this meeting!!
21. I live in Snohomish County and was not pleased that the King county exec had so much say on the placement of a treatment plant in our county. My bills will be going up and it occurred to me that, if King county was the "primary" partner in this venture that all the extra revenues might actually leave my county and head south.
Whatever the reasons for mitigation, it is all our tax money - excessive mitigation just raises the costs for everyone.
I'll agree with Laurie, unless you bring the goodies yourself, I'd be wary of eating anything at the conference....
