Contest: "Who loses his job first?"

... Joel Horn or Dean Logan?

Post your best guesses as to the date when each of these guys is fired. The person who comes closest (first entry in case of tie) will win some sort of suitable prize.

1. Stefan,
You have posed a trick question...
The answer is neither one!

Local government has proven time and time again that no one will be held responsible for corruption, misinformation, cover-ups, incompetence, lies, or scandals!

It's their world and we are just living in it, oh and paying for it!

2. Hmmm... Horn's job seems more in danger than Logan, but then, SMP can drag its feet longer than November election. So, if Irons wins, I'd say Logan will go first, but if Sims, God forbid, get re-elected, then Horn will lose his first.

Posted by: C. Oh on June 30, 2005 11:00 PM
3. I'd say Horn goes, because Sims seems absolutely determined to go down with Logan tied around his neck (why, I have no idea)

Posted by: Michele on June 30, 2005 11:02 PM
4. I'm going to go out (somewhat) on a limb and say that Logan will be gone first. As pointed out above, the monorail people can drag their feet well beyond November, and (hopefully) Irons will move in as Executive and clean out KCE.

Well, here's to hoping (I wouldn't mind being wrong and having them BOTH out by Nov.)

5. Horn will hold on one more week - he'll be fired by Thurs, July 7th.

Posted by: Rick on June 30, 2005 11:21 PM
6. Definitely Horn. I'd say he is gone July 12

Posted by: mike on June 30, 2005 11:22 PM
7. Horn will be gone by August 15, 2005.

Logan's last day will be December 31, 2005.

Posted by: Susan B. Anthony on June 30, 2005 11:24 PM
8. If I have my way Joel Horn will be the first to go.Lets hope the cancer of King County-Ron sims and the incompetant idiot Dean Logan soon follow them out the door.

9. I am afraid the most recent events have got us in a state of euphoria. We have seen these people wiggle of the hock far to many times.

Instead of picking who goes first I think I will pray that God is a Republican (and Heaven is red) and that he is done giving these guy's a chance to wake up and serve him and the people they took an oath to serve.

10. [Logan told employees after the release of the task force's employee survey earlier this month, "We have much work to do." He also said in a news release there was "no excuse for this year's past performance."]

If there was no excuse for the performance, and Logan was in charge, then Logan should simply resign. That's what responsibility means.

Posted by: Shannon K on June 30, 2005 11:40 PM
11. Joel will be gone as of Friday, July 8, 5 PM.

Posted by: A Moderate on June 30, 2005 11:42 PM
12. 4pawz, I agree with your thoughts. Having said that, I believe Logan is there for the duration of the Sims dynasty. Joel Horn will be gone on July 29 with a huge severance check which will include salary until the end of the year, back vacation pay and sick leave and a bonus for a job well done. It's about the money with him. He has played this opera to the final curtain call. Exit, stage left. Guaranteed he has another scam in the wings. He won't fight to hang on . . . he's been paid.

13. Can you win their job? It seems like a reasonable enough interview question if you can pick your predecessor's firing date!

Posted by: bmvaughn on June 30, 2005 11:46 PM
14. Shannon K,
Great point! But guess what...
DEAN LOGAN HIT THE JOB LOTTO!!!

He has a job that pays 6 figures with great benefits without a college degree or any leadership skills!

Would you resign if you were him?

15. lksimstrailgrammy

Thanks for the comments. I think you have a good handle on this and I would tend to follow your steps on this issue. But I think I will still keep praying to see the big "GOP" sign in the sky one day soon. - 4pawz

16. I say that if Ron Sims loses the November election, Dean Logan gets fired sometime during the lame duck period. He'd be getting tossed out the minute David Irons took office anyway, so Sims might as well come up with something resembling election reforms so he has some accomplishments to claim for whatever he runs for next. If Sims wins the election, Dean Logan's there for at least Sims' next term.

As for Joel Horn, I suspect he'll be shortly "reassigned" to some six-figure sinecure from where he can continue to pull the strings of the monorail board...

Posted by: Vexorg on July 1, 2005 01:10 AM
17. Joel Horn won't be fired. Instead on Friday, July 8th it'll be announced that he's "decide to pursue other opportunities and spend more time with his family", effective July 31st.

As for Logan, Sims will keep him around as long as he serves his purpose. If it looks like the race is close and Logan is needed to ensure a Sims victory, he stays. If Sims is badly trailing, then he'll fire Logan immediately after the (botched) Primary in a desperate attempt to turn the race around.

18. Can't they both just go...right behind Ron Sims?

I just have this vision of the three of them trying to get past the TSA at SeaTac in their mad rush to leave the state.......The thought just warms my heart!......snicker...

Posted by: Deborah on July 1, 2005 01:47 AM
19. They will both cling to their jobs like a rat about to be swept away in the flood. Horn needs Logan, Logan needs Sims, Sims needs to be gone.

Posted by: sgmmac on July 1, 2005 05:16 AM
20. How about a third choice, Sims?

Posted by: swassociates on July 1, 2005 06:54 AM
21. Dori Monson said on his show yesterday that Ron Sims needs to be removed from his job now.

Posted by: Janet on July 1, 2005 07:22 AM
22. Horn gone late on July 8, so the news is stale by Monday morning.
Logan gone about 3 hours or less after Irons is sworn in.
Sims beats our Gregoire for the Dems nomination for Gov in '08 and Rossi wins 39 of 39 counties. KCE keeps finding more and more ballots but it won't be enough to give Sims the win.

News flash O'Connor resign from SCOTUS. Let the nomination fight begin!!

Posted by: JCM on July 1, 2005 07:25 AM
23. Neither.
They will re-arrange, re-design, re-configure, and even move desks around to give the illusion of action but in the end, both will keep their jobs.
If the polls are close in September then we will see what will be billed as "bold and decisive" leadership. Only then will these guys be axed to save Tammany Hall West.

Posted by: Danno on July 1, 2005 07:38 AM
24. With the release of that scathing incompetance report ("Ron Sims' independent task force says that King County's election office is in worse shape than it was before County Executive Ron Sims hired Dean Logan two years ago"), Dean Logan is looking more and more like a sacrificial goat on the altar of Ron Sims campaign.

Posted by: Cheryl on July 1, 2005 07:48 AM
25. Logan - July 30
Horn - August 13

Posted by: Regret on July 1, 2005 07:59 AM
26. Unless there is a video of Horn or Logan actually killing someone (three different angles), I don't think either one is going to leave. They are as safe as any incompetent teacher protected by the WEA.

Posted by: Tim R on July 1, 2005 08:33 AM
27. Horn doesn't have a sugar daddy or the goods on anyone, he's gone.

Logan has the goods on Sims and the election conspiracy, he stays to keep him close and quiet.

Posted by: JCM on July 1, 2005 08:38 AM
28. Logan will stay around until about 10 to 14 days before election. Then placed on administrative "probation" (with pay of course). This will give the illusion Sims is doing something about the election dept. and mind numbed voters will be duped into thinking Sims is cleaning things up.

Posted by: PC on July 1, 2005 08:48 AM
29. Joe Horn Jan 10 2006
Logan - Aug 18 2005

Posted by: Van on July 1, 2005 09:03 AM
30. Agree with Joe, it's a trick question. The question is not whether they get fired, but whether or not they loose their paycheck. Even if they are removed from their current position, I BET they move into another position on the taxpayers payroll, with a similar income.

For example, I seem to remember a supervisor in KC elections and another in SOS office (overseeing statewide elections with no experience or knowledge of election laws). Neither known for good work in former job. It's a good-old-boy network to keep these people on the public payroll, and dare we consider it a pay-off for getting the job done behind the scenes (ie swinging state elections thru deliberate KC incompetence).

Baseball calls it a "sacrifice" play, and even keeps stats on who is good at it. The batter puts the ball in play and even gets "out", but their real job was to advance the runner on base (think cause here). The runner advances, and the batter returns to the dug out to wait for his next "turn" at bat.

Although they may publicly be removed from their current position, "for the good of the cause"; even if removed from their current positions Horn & Logan will become peas in this shell game. Neither will truely loose their income, they just get a new job title.

31. The announcement of Horn's departure will be around 3:30 pm on Friday, July 15, 2005.

The announcement of Logan's departure will be around 3:30 pm on Friday, December 16, 2005.

Posted by: Huckleberry on July 1, 2005 09:09 AM
32. Hucklwberry, 3:30 makes the evening news. It has to be later so it the story dies on the weekend.

Posted by: JCM on July 1, 2005 09:11 AM
33. Dean Logan has to stick around at least through this election so that he can deliver a victory to Sims if it is close.

Joel Horn is going to blame all of those misleading numbers on evil republican bond-sellers and start talking more populist bullshit--selling Seattle the idea that there is federal money forthcoming. this will guarantee him a job for two more years at least.

so, this is a trick question. neither is going to lose their job. shame on you fools that inhabit the real world.

Posted by: Rex on July 1, 2005 09:21 AM
34. Hey Stefan - now that we have had our morning jollies with the guessing game - can you get a new thread strated re the the latest Sims boondoggle to develope the north lot of the Quest Field -- I propose 4 stories of parking over 1 or 2 stories of the usual downtown Seattle retail/fuud circus styrofoam/plastic utensile crap plus a couple gourmet restaurants to make it look good - then about 10 stories of condos all arranged with decks on their south sides to take in the sun and watch the hawks games for free -- each unit should come with its own telescope.

Posted by: Bill on July 1, 2005 09:26 AM
35. Then P.A. can sue king county and the shitty of skedaddle for compromising the ticket sales to the games -- and all will be well with the world

Posted by: Bill on July 1, 2005 09:29 AM
36. dl, you should be ashamed of yourself for using a baseball analogy when we were talking about King County politics.

Don't you realize the offense you give to baseball?!!

37. Then we can have a bond issue to build a roof over qwest field

Posted by: Bill on July 1, 2005 09:39 AM
38. I agree with Rex, neither is going to lose their job, because to fire them would mean something was wrong, and no one is admitting that. However, for the purposes of the contest and a chance to win a fabulous prize, I am going to say that Horn will be the first to go, with the announcement made on Tues July 5, effective July 31. (I also agree that if he does leave his position, he will have another well-paid position waiting for him.)

Posted by: wilinsky on July 1, 2005 09:39 AM
39. Joe--
I'm with you. Trick question. WHICH job? Either will pop up on another public payroll org chart within a week.

If not, either or both will form consulting companies and contract with the state for value-added consulting, key contacts and know-how.

THis situation is like a dormant herpes virus in our WA political system. Once in a while, it will cause flare-ups. Face it--Seattle voters have been infected and do not have the guts to get a shot, or even discuss this "intimate rash."

Oh--and what kind of "go away" reward will we pay them? Severance? Contract buyouts? Hefty pensions? Let's reward failure. Corporate America, the libs will argue, does with their failed exec golden parachutes.

Posted by: Jimmie-howya-doin on July 1, 2005 10:32 AM
40. Horn will not be fired.
My guess, look for a special BLUE RIBBON PANEL, Ron Sims authorized, to study the problem with Joel Horn AND Dean Logan leading it.

Posted by: stevenantony on July 1, 2005 10:37 AM
41. Horn will not be fired, but will leave to "pursue other interests." He'll leave first, because big $$$$$ are involved.

Posted by: South County on July 1, 2005 10:44 AM
42. Sorry Alphabet Soup, what can I say? Baseball is a familiar topic. No offense meant to baseball, but it does cover most real-life situations.

Posted by: dl on July 1, 2005 10:45 AM
43. As others have mentioned, the key is really when they will leave their current positions & titles.

Joel Horn: Announced July 15th, effective August 31 ("oppportunity he can't pass up")

Dean Logan: Announced September 2nd, truly effective December 31, 2005 (since he will be asked to stay on to help the office through that date because of his "invaluable experience")

Posted by: Mark on July 1, 2005 11:11 AM
44. Joel Horn leaves "voluntarily" over the 4th of July holiday.

Dean Logan leaves "voluntarily" by July 29 (though Ron Sims implies he had something to do with it leading into the primary).

Posted by: the_radish on July 1, 2005 11:39 AM
45. I've seen too much Survival of the Cluelessest over the years. Neither will get 'fired'. They'll just move on to other 'challenges' or 'opportunities' for 'health reasons' (ours, we hope).

Posted by: starboardhelm on July 1, 2005 12:28 PM
46. ... and the suitable prize? how about a bronzed fake absentee ballot or some laminated (& Shark- autographed) document from the election? like a tally sheet or something? now THAT I would cherish!! how about one of those official state photos of the Queen? how about a 10-karat initiative ballot form or something?

Posted by: Jimmie-howya-doin on July 1, 2005 01:31 PM
47. Logan will go first since he presided over criminal violations of election law. He'll become a stone around Sims' neck, and Ron will throw him into the volcano to save his own neck. Logan will be gone by the end of July.

Horn didn't break any laws. He just presided over another public boondoggle. And make no mistake... the monorail WILL be built, and a few years later torn down. Seattle made this monster, and it will not die no matter what happens.

Posted by: Mark on July 1, 2005 01:54 PM
48. Both of these incompetent boobs need to go immediately. Good riddance to bad rubbish! It's time for Ron Sims to removed as well.

Posted by: Kerri on July 1, 2005 02:27 PM
49. Joel Horn will resign on Friday, July 8.
Ron Sims will accept Dean Logan's resignation (offered under threat) on July 15.

(I should go buy a lottery ticket; my chances of winning the lottery (1 in 7 million) is far greater than predicting a government employee losing his job any day!)

Posted by: Mike on July 1, 2005 03:15 PM
50. Joel has his job ONLY because of Dean Logan. Remember the 800 some odd votes in the election that kept the monorail alive? How many antimonorail votes were "lost" and how many illegal votes were cast? I predict that Joel will go first, just to turn down the heat on the Monorail Board a little. The announcement will come at the next Monorail meeting. Dean's situation has faded from the public mind a bit, so he will last until the new County Exec takes over.

Posted by: John on July 1, 2005 04:05 PM
51. Horn will announce his departure in the form of a resignation on Tuesday, after "doing some soul searching over the holiday weekend."

Logan will never resign and Sims will never fire him. He is there until someone new is the KC executive office; then he will slink away to work in some obscure post down in Olympia.

Posted by: BananaLand(aka Iguana) on July 1, 2005 08:10 PM
52. On second thought, both will resurface at various (prestigious) ivy league WA junior colleges as professors of public policy or governmental studies. This way, their pension points and years will still rack up and be available for the tough retirement years ahead in some picturesque rural 'back 40' WA acres that are immune to any CAO threats (having done their careful retirement planning research).

Posted by: Jimmie-howya-doin on July 1, 2005 08:17 PM
53. Hey Stephan! I am pretty sure I won this contest!

So, what do I get?
