Irons Fundraisers

Next week is kickoff week for David Irons' campaign for King County Executive. He is holding a series of events to raise enough money to be a strong challenger to Ron Sims -- to bring an end to Sims' legacy of sloppy governance. There are four breakfasts around the county, in Seattle, Lake Forest Park, Carnation and Federal Way.

My wife and I will be hosting an Irons fundraiser Monday the 23rd at 6pm in Ballard. This one is aimed at bloggers and blog readers -- you are all invited! It will give you a chance to meet David, learn his positions and hopefully inspire you to post on his behalf. If you are interested, please RSVP to me at awm@alum.mit.edu and I'll add you to the David Irons Blog Event evite.

2. Phil you're right David is a good man and will get a good portion of the votes from supporters; however, remember he is going to also pick up a trainload of ABS (Anyone But Sims) votes from those who are fed up with Ron's disappointing leadership.

This is an interesting time to watch years of corruptness be overturned effectively by the system our forefathers put in place to allow peaceful change. Hopefully, the children in schools get a front row seat to see this is how it should be in a democracy--you know where people give power to the leaders and not the other way around.

3. It's often the simple things that take your breath away, and David pays attention to the simple things.

King County Council members get how many e-mails on a daily basis? Scores, hundreds, thousands??? Yet David - NOT some staffer - reads his own mail. How do I know? Because I saw him at a recent King County Council Town Hall Meeting on homelessness, I buttonholed him for a moment, and his comments to me told me he reads what I send him. I can say the same for only two other KC Council members.

Additionally, he puts himself out there to take good positions on tough issues even when he doesn't have to or when doing so might not be politically correct or expedient.

There's an old saying, "A fish rots from the head down," and so it is with King County government. If it were simply corruption, it would be easy. Indict a few, try 'em, and toss 'em in the can and be done with it. But it's not that simple. It's the sloppiness and incompetence that's so pathetic!

Example: I recently paid my 2005 KC property tax, and I sent two checks with my statement. One check was drawn on a brokerage account, and one on my primary bank. The County cashed the one drawn on my bank - the smaller of the two checks - for the ENTIRE AMOUNT of my payment, some $1,500.00 more than the check was written for. Talk about turning my bank account into a rubber room!

When I tried to get the matter resolved, I was told, "The 'gal' (how progressive is that term?) who handles that isn't in. You'll have to wait until next week." Oh, really??? After getting a telephone run-around and screw-up, I eventually ended up with a supervisor (and getting him was no simple task), who promised me some relief.

When I went to the bank to explain the situation, they were incredulous. "How," a bank employee said,"could the County do this - make this big of a mistake?" I looked at here and said simply, "These are the same people who brought you the 2004 election snafu." Immediately, she understood and further explanations became unnecessary.

Oh, and she became a David Irons supporter, too. I made sure of that.

4. There will be a big swing in momentum toward Irons if Rossi wins the election contest. This will reflect on Ron Sims aka the rotting fish head of King County. I give Irons a real shot here, especially if he hits hard with HIS SOLUTIONS, not just the failures of Ron Sims - people want to hear about Solutions, not just failures. Sims stock continues to go down thanks to his irresponsible and stupid decisions and above his refusal to hold anyone accountable.

If Irons wins, the drive to create a new Cedar County will lose stem, since Irons is from the heart of what would be Cedar County. I am sure his policies would be a vast improvement over Sims - but the problem is the Seattle electorate who have enough loons to elect Fidel Castro, but the Eastside has gained more influence over the years, so it's a wide open race - Vote for David Irons !
