King County Elections responds

King County Elections replied a short time ago in response to my earlier e-mail expressing frustration with their incomplete fulfillment of my request for the absentee ballot audit trail:

As I explained to you when you stopped by to review documents in our office on Tuesday, April 12, 2005, King County Elections is continuing to make copies of the information you requested and we are happy to provide you with the information you pointed out to me Tuesday. The remaining copies will be available by Friday, April 15, 2005 as will the disk you requested. Since I am not a computer scientist, it was necessary that I inquire about how to run such a report to get you the information you requested by tomorrow. The disk I provided to you yesterday contained the information from PSI, which you requested. I was not intending to withhold any information, rather provide you what we had available just as soon as it became available.
...
The disk will be available by noon tomorrow as well as access to review other information associated with your request. Please let me know if you'd like to schedule a time to review these documents.
I'll be there tomorrow afternoon and will report my findings as soon as I can.

2. "Since I am not a computer scientist..." So this person is saying that he (or she) is unqualified for the job???
King County's answer to prompt responses to FOI requests is to have someone process the requests who can't do the job...

3. "Since I am not" et al. heehee, I think that's another way of saying "Since it's clear to me that you're better at my job than I am...."

sounds like it.

4. In all fairness, the response was written by a spokesperson, who can't be expected to have intimate knowledge of database technical issues.
