A Seattle Civics Lesson
James Na has an op-ed in today's Seattle Times about citizen responsibility and community life in our fair city, entitled "Here's the real poop on civic-minded Seattle." There is something to be said about combating a culture conducive to violent crime by extending law enforcement's attention to smaller crime, as Na discusses. Yet, in all my years I cannot ONCE recall seeing the word "poop" in a printed headline.

1. I stand corrected. I thought you were referring to "poop" in the same vein as the "buzz", "scuttlebut", etc.. Until, that is, I read the article.
2. I cannot recall specifics, but I am sure there was "poop" in a headline or two regarding the Dave Matthews tour bus incident.
3. Proof positive that Seattle is circling the drain.
4. Sorry, I posted before I truly absorbed the weight of Na's article. In retrospect...gimme a break. The only people that have accused Seattle of being civic-minded are Seattlites. They are no better than any other high-density living folks.
5. I've created a MSM sw application.....
if(seattle && liberal)
printf("It's all Tom DeLay's fault. As soon as the GOP does something about Delay, Ohio vote fraud, then I'll pick up my dog's poop. Bush lied about WMD and brought us into this losing fight in Iraq where 100,000 innocent civilians have been slaughtered by our troops, why can't I lie about my dogs excrement? /n");
6. Seth, I think Mr. Na only conjured up this article as an excuse (in true Beavis & Butthead style) to utter the word "Poop".
I think he really stepped in it this time....
7. Being one of the very few born and raised in Seattle, I've seen the city change for the worse. Sure, Seattle used to be the shining NW town with a friendly face but those days are long gone. Now Seattle is packed full of elitist liberal yuppies (conservative bloggers excluded).
I moved to Bellevue/Redmond area ten years ago and love it. The parks are nicely kept (and open), the streets clean and the people are much more friendly than the snotty Seattle-ites. Better schools and less crime as well. That must be why Seattle feels superior to the east side.
8. Seattleites can turn their nose up at the fact that I live east of Lake Sammamish, but at least we don't have dog poop all over the sidewalks. We all scoop our dogs' doo up here!
9. Maybe they should use it for another headline in regards to ballot enhancement, like...
"POOP (and other unapproved substances like white out and Sharpie pens) Used To Enhance Ballots in King County"
10. One can equate the density of dog poop to the intensity of liberalism amongst its populous - as one would expect Seattle has a high density of doggie caca. After all, being liberal means that you never have to say your'e sorry...

12. Wow! I like it. James hit the perverbial nail on the head. I visit Seattle, but I wouldn't want to live there. Too many of todays libs have a retro mentality of how good the '60s were. Anti-everything that represents any form of control. Funny, the way I remember the '60s and '70s the libs/hippies hated government as it was 'big brother'. Now they can't get enough. Thanks Mr. Na for an excellent article.
Tom
13. All I can say is I'm glad I don't live there anymore. Seattle and King County are well on their way to becoming San Francisco Norte.
South Whidbey suits me just fine, even if it's also infested with old liberals. At least Island County in toto is a "Red State."
14. "I cannot ONCE recall seeing the word "poop" in a printed headline"
If this election nonsense continues much longer, Mr. Na may be seen as being ahead of the curve.
15. As Triumph the Insult Comic Dog once said of Bon Jovi (and I believe it applies to the Washington State Democratic Party too):
LEFTISTS give poop a bad name!
16. re: Poop in a headline. How about "booger"? A couple of years ago I saw Dave Barry at 3d Place Books in Lake Forest Park pushing his book "Boogers are my Beat." But Dave, why have such a strange word in your book title? "I wanted to see Katie Couric and Sam Donaldson say it on network TV. When it's in the title of the book they have to say it. And they did!"
I wish I made that up.
17. Hopefully, there will be another headline that will say, "Ron Sims and GreGore in Big Poop Over Election Fraud."
18. Jethro, I moved out of Bellevue 25 years ago for the same reason you moved out of Seattle. So, with a tripling of population, things have gotten better?
I moved up north where we have a dog "scuttlebutt" ordinance already.
19. 30 years ago I had a friend that lived on Sacramento Street in Berkeley, CA -- It was stylish at that time among the hippie (ex-, recovering, and/or wannabee) chicks (clunks) to have large dogs - probably to protect them from their liberal 'friends' -- let's just say you had to really watch your step and that it was impossible to walk a straight line down the sidewalk -- we nicknamed the street "Excramento Street"
20. Can't say I blame you Swatter.
As more Seattle libs head across the pond and start destroying the Eastside, I'll consider moving further out - especially out of King County. Hopefully, I have a few more years.
21. Andy,
LOL - that was great!
I did find a small bug in your sw application. Something to do with "Dems look bad because Karl Rove did it."
22. I heard lot prices in Easton and CleElum are now outrageous. Who would have thunk you would be commuting from CleElum? When I was first starting out, North Bend, and yes, even Issaquah, was in another world.
23. The poor Seattleites are having trouble keeping up with all the crap the KC elections are dumping.
24. How does James Na know that all the poop he sees day in day out is dogs'?
