The legal challenge to the Washington governor's election will go to trial on May 23.
Chelan County Superior Court Judge John Bridges set the trial date Tuesday during a hearing in Wenatchee. He said the trial should take no more than two weeks.
The Seattle Times has this hilarious bit: the judge denied
a request by the state Democratic Party to wait six months before starting the trialMeanwhile, former Attorney General Gregoire says:
"I really feel it's time to put it behind us and move on,"So do we all! And it'll be a lot easier to put Her Illegitimacy behind us once her behind is moved on out of the governor's mansion. Posted by Stefan Sharkansky at April 05, 2005 03:32 PM | Email This
There is a reason why we kicked your ass on Nov 2nd.

Posted by: chunkstyle on April 5, 2005 03:41 PMThe GOP hates trial lawyers and activist judges until they need them to try to steal elections.

Posted by: SP Fan on April 5, 2005 03:53 PMIs the entire purpose of the left to just generally disrupt civility and law wherever possible?
Posted by: Baynative on April 5, 2005 04:10 PMI think this is very true. One consequence of this will be the increased number and vitriol of trolls here, as the leftist machines (nationwide) go to an all fronts disinformation campaign.

Posted by: Jimg on April 5, 2005 04:17 PMAlso looking like a good movie screenplay. Wonder where ole Mikey Moore is right now? Probably wolfing down another four or five monster Hardees burgers. Maybe Mel Gibson will sign on to do this one. He could be a good Rossi.
Now, all we gotta pray is that we get some judges who actually want to follow the rule of law and not make it up as they go. Looks like they may have to pull Christines feeding tube.
REVOTE. When it happens will the Dr. from Georgia get to vote?
Posted by: niceville on April 5, 2005 04:18 PMIn any case, as stated above, we can expect to see more and more of that ilk here as the Dems try to discredit and disinform.
Posted by: Larry on April 5, 2005 04:22 PMObsruct, obfuscate and oppose (common sense). Today's Democratic Party.
Posted by: Shaun on April 5, 2005 04:36 PMWait much longer and a victory could be meaningless. Doesn't the state law say that the revote can't be a special election, but must take place at the general election (Nov.)?
Posted by: Osiris on April 5, 2005 04:37 PMThe 6 mos. delay is a classic defensive move by a guilty party. The more you delay and stall, the more likely apathy sets in.
Posted by: Bob on April 5, 2005 04:44 PMThe Democrats wanted to postpone the trial until it would have been too late to elect a governor at the general election this coming November.
The constitution says a vacancy in office must be filled at the next general election, if the vacancy is created at least 30 days before that election.
Add 6 months to April 6, plus a week or so for trial, and you find yourself with less than 30 days left before the next general election -- even without taking time to appeal.
Even if the Republicans won the election contest after a 6-month delay, Brad Owen would become the governor until a governor could be elected at the November 2006 general election.
Pretty transparent. It would be nice to think that they tried such a ploy because they're genuinely worried.
Harris at April 5, 2005 04:11 PM --
You're right that the May 2 preliminary hearing to determine the burden of proof will be really important.
It will shape everything done at trial, and could determine the outcome.
But, since that is a ruling on the law, either side could get the state supreme court to decide on appeal whether the trial judge had decided correctly about the law. (Unlike findings of fact at trial, which are normally accepted unless clearly unsubstantiated by the evidence or caused by a misapplication of the law.)
So, May 2 will probably cheer up one side and send the other into gloom, but we won't know the outcome until the supreme court reviews the case.
Posted by: Micajah on April 5, 2005 04:44 PMWelcome to the party Julia, even if you are a little late. Many of us had no confidence in this election after the 2nd revelation and some of us after the 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, and the 9th ad infinitum, ad nauseam revelations.
Before you run your mouth again about judges.
you should know the facts about the judge
in this case. There was a different judge
overseeing this case. One of the counties
I believe thurston Had a problem with
him. That judge then recused himself from
the case.
It was then assigned to judge bridges.
No one and I No mean no one went shopping
for a judge. So in the future if you can't
back up what your saying. dont say it you
make yourself look stupid.

If that's the case, don't let him resign.
Boot his butt to the curb and fire him.
I agree.
It's really comical how all of you silly conservatives get yourselves in an uproar over an issue that over, done & closed.
Christine Gregoire is the Governor, at least until January 2009. Rossi is a private citizen, with no power except to rant and rave and be a loser.
Go on. I strongly urge all of you to keep using energy on this effort. It allows those us who are Democrats and want to help govern to do so without your interference in the process. You're too tied up tilting at windmills.
It's wonderful to see you do that.

Even Washingtonians don't like cheaters.
Posted by: DeadManVoting (aka Iguana) on April 5, 2005 06:33 PMIs that really too much to ask?
Nelson are you hands between your legs looking for that tilting windmill? Hmmm... You keep milking that line or is it something else? I have been to the Netherlands and seen and touched real windmills. You don't know what you are talking about!!! Unless you are talking about that tongue wagging in the air propelling air aimlessly around?
Last thing: Looks like Julia Patteson got religion finally. Religion in seeing the truth and acknowledging the sins of the many.

Let's see how *they* like slowly starving to death from lack of support and tax dollars......The citizens of this state simply must remember we are being merciful by witholding this sustenance....and it's truly what the Dems would have wanted - they said so way back when JFK was Prez....They are suffering in their current state and will get a lot worse very soon with the Rossi TRIAL....

Posted by: Arky on April 6, 2005 05:15 AMI live in Ohio. Personally, it took me longer to walk from my car to the poll than it did for me to wait in line (translation: I had no wait).
Granted, I live in a small city in a mostly rural county. Nonetheless, I don't believe anyone here had a 14-hour wait. Consider, the polls aren't even open for 14 hours; so, someone who really did wait that long had to have arrived when the polls opened, and already had many thousands upon thousands of people ahead of them, and on top of that, waited for an hour or two after the polls closed to vote.
Also, Dean... it was rain, not snow. Minor difference, but hey, can you get at least *some* of the details right, please?
"Washington wasn't Ohio." You're correct there. At least here, our county boards of elections are all run by two people from each party, rather than being "paid stooges of partisan candidates."
Posted by: Snowy Owl on April 6, 2005 08:11 AMRiiiight, 129 questionable votes constitutes an ass-kicking now. Keep telling yourself that. The number of questionable ballots far exceeds 129. At last count it was in the thousands. To the extent that anybody kicked a little ass, it was Rossi doing the kicking. But then, maybe this is the appropriate time to remember the motto the left lives by when it comes to electoral politics, first articulated by Josef Stalin: "He who votes decides nothing, he who counts the votes decides everything."
I relish the idea of minimizing the Dems and letting the Pubs have another shot, but I do not hold out hopes they will be better. Just differnet and different is good (Ed. note: I am left-handed).
