Date set for Washington governor's election trial

The legal challenge to the Washington governor's election will go to trial on May 23.

Chelan County Superior Court Judge John Bridges set the trial date Tuesday during a hearing in Wenatchee. He said the trial should take no more than two weeks.

The Seattle Times has this hilarious bit: the judge denied

a request by the state Democratic Party to wait six months before starting the trial
Meanwhile, former Attorney General Gregoire says:
"I really feel it's time to put it behind us and move on,"
So do we all! And it'll be a lot easier to put Her Illegitimacy behind us once her behind is moved on out of the governor's mansion.

1. You mean the show trial at the activist judge just that Looserman Rosi and the GOP judge shopped for?

There is a reason why we kicked your ass on Nov 2nd.

3. Correction to Dean fan. On Nov. 2 Rossi was the one doing the ass kicking. And he will again on May 23rd by all indications.

4. Washington was not Ohio. We did not have to wait in line for 14 hours to vote in the snow and the Secretary of State was not a paid stooge of a partisan candidate.

The GOP hates trial lawyers and activist judges until they need them to try to steal elections.

5. I wouldn't exactly say a 129 vote margin of "victory" is kicking anyone's ass. No logically thinking person (uh sorry, I forgot, that doesn't include Dean fans or for that matter most Democrats) can conclude anything other than this election was stolen, plain and simple... and the dems will pay in the end. You little trolls can crawl back under your rocks now...

Is the entire purpose of the left to just generally disrupt civility and law wherever possible?

Also looking like a good movie screenplay. Wonder where ole Mikey Moore is right now? Probably wolfing down another four or five monster Hardees burgers. Maybe Mel Gibson will sign on to do this one. He could be a good Rossi.

Now, all we gotta pray is that we get some judges who actually want to follow the rule of law and not make it up as they go. Looks like they may have to pull Christines feeding tube.

REVOTE. When it happens will the Dr. from Georgia get to vote?

18. Anyone know what justification the Dems had for waiting 6 full months for the trial? I mean, they've been party to the contest, they've had just as much time as the Repubs have had to prepare. What could they possibly gain from it (other than allowing the Govenor-Pretend to pee in the sandbox a bit more).

23. Mikey at April 5, 2005 04:30 PM --

The Democrats wanted to postpone the trial until it would have been too late to elect a governor at the general election this coming November.

The constitution says a vacancy in office must be filled at the next general election, if the vacancy is created at least 30 days before that election.

Add 6 months to April 6, plus a week or so for trial, and you find yourself with less than 30 days left before the next general election -- even without taking time to appeal.

Even if the Republicans won the election contest after a 6-month delay, Brad Owen would become the governor until a governor could be elected at the November 2006 general election.

Pretty transparent. It would be nice to think that they tried such a ploy because they're genuinely worried.

Harris at April 5, 2005 04:11 PM --

You're right that the May 2 preliminary hearing to determine the burden of proof will be really important.

It will shape everything done at trial, and could determine the outcome.

But, since that is a ruling on the law, either side could get the state supreme court to decide on appeal whether the trial judge had decided correctly about the law. (Unlike findings of fact at trial, which are normally accepted unless clearly unsubstantiated by the evidence or caused by a misapplication of the law.)

So, May 2 will probably cheer up one side and send the other into gloom, but we won't know the outcome until the supreme court reviews the case.

40. Hey Dean Fan: Look at the facts. Ohio City people who are under the thumb of their DEMOCRATIC masters had to wait in the snow. Did Ken Blackwell, the Sec'y of State force them to stand in the snow? No way it was the democratic city fathers. Democrats dole out the machines, man the polling places. Like the issue of Columbus, the city fathers put more machines in the affluent parts of the city (can you say Ohio State University), then in the inner city. But Dean Fan cry wolf. You see I grew up in a east coast city so I know how it works. Your subterfuge will not work here.

Nelson are you hands between your legs looking for that tilting windmill? Hmmm... You keep milking that line or is it something else? 41. Someone may have responded to the question of why wait 6 months but I missed it if they did.
I think the answer is obvious. They are hoping to move the primary into August so overseas ballots can get to our brave ones in the military.
If the trial begins in 6 months (October), Dino and Chris wont be on the ballots so she gets another year to rubber stamp the bills passed by the Dems and cowardly Republicans that refuse to stand for anything.
It is time to write call and email those cowards I watched vote in nearly lockstep with the Dems since the session beagn and tell them to fight for every inch of ground they can. If they don't, they will be seen as RINO's next time around and that is how it should be.

46. Yeah, I know, I'm feeding the trolls a bit, but I'm getting tired of clueless non-Ohioans (translation: Dean) talking nonsense about what we did here in Ohio.

I live in Ohio. Personally, it took me longer to walk from my car to the poll than it did for me to wait in line (translation: I had no wait).

Granted, I live in a small city in a mostly rural county. Nonetheless, I don't believe anyone here had a 14-hour wait. Consider, the polls aren't even open for 14 hours; so, someone who really did wait that long had to have arrived when the polls opened, and already had many thousands upon thousands of people ahead of them, and on top of that, waited for an hour or two after the polls closed to vote.

Also, Dean... it was rain, not snow. Minor difference, but hey, can you get at least *some* of the details right, please?

"Washington wasn't Ohio." You're correct there. At least here, our county boards of elections are all run by two people from each party, rather than being "paid stooges of partisan candidates."

Riiiight, 129 questionable votes constitutes an ass-kicking now. Keep telling yourself that.
The number of questionable ballots far exceeds 129. At last count it was in the thousands. To the extent that anybody kicked a little ass, it was Rossi doing the kicking. But then, maybe this is the appropriate time to remember the motto the left lives by when it comes to electoral politics, first articulated by Josef Stalin: "He who votes decides nothing, he who counts the votes decides everything."

They may not have heard Tuesday when told the election is the first (Tuesday) of November - just a thought)are dem controlled, with dem election officials, with dems selecting the polling locations, and the number of polling locations. Oh the details...

49. Gregoire is the BEST FRIEND WE HAVE EVER HAD IN WASHINGTON STATE. Even my mother who is a die hard DEMOCRAT voter and suporter is flaming mad about the sheer number of proposed tax increases she has proposed. She has no other option, she is painted into a corner abd needs EVERY DEMOCRAT CONSTINTUENCY GROUP plus some independents, just as Clinton did. But she is no Bill Clinton. She knows she has NO INDEPENDENT support, and no where near complete backing from nominal Democrats. She is sacrificing the State Democrat Party in the process because what she is doing is repugnant to all but the kool-aid drinkers in her own party.

Posted by: JDH on April 6, 2005 09:38 AM
50. JDH - you are right, and the best part about the dems having all these delays in the suit, is that her tax increases will all be known for the next election. If they had a revote quickly no one would have known about her real intentions. This could end up in a Rossi landslide (given that 129 votes is an a$$ kicking)

No the Kool-aid drinkers are not going to flip, BUT and this is the essense of my argument, marginal Democrats don't need to 'flip' they only need to be given a reason to consider the Republican candidate and there are a whole mess of them. All we need is a percentage of the voters who have allways gone Democrat, just because that is all they know, and they are Toast with a capital T. Gregoire is willing to let this happen because 'it's all about ME, Me, ME' and that is going to be their downfall. The onl way out of this trap is for Democrats to stop living in a dream world of denial. I don't see this happening across the board, but watch some Dems start to distance themselves from the 'Party line' soon. They are going to save their own scalp ant to heck with Gregoire.
