Circling the wagons and the drain

King County Councilman Steve Hammond today called on Dean Logan to resign. Now that two members of the Council (that I know about) have publicly demanded Logan's resignation and more are sure to follow, Executive Ron Sims is going into full circle-the-wagons mode:

"I have received a full report on the discovery of ballots and the personnel actions taken in the Records and Elections Division and I am satisfied the appropriate course of action is underway. I continue to have full faith and confidence in Director Dean Logan and believe the people of this county are best served by allowing him to finish the election reforms needed.
It's hard to imagine either Dean Logan or Ron Sims finishing much of anything past Sims current term.

1. That is a nice thought. However, these are the guys in charge of "counting" the votes, so it might be hard to vote Sims out....

2. I wrote a note to my Councilman and encourage others to do the same - whether for or against their resignation. Take a more active role!

3. Whether it was fraud, incompetence, or both...Logan, King County, and Sims cannot and will not regain Public Trust until they:

1. Stick to 1 straight story as to what happened
2. Justify votes with voters
3. Quit being defensive (it only makes them look
more guilty)
4. Are voted out of office

Had Logan, Sims and the gang either fessed up in the beginning to mistakes and explained how new ballots were constantly being discovered (here, there, and everywhere)or were to now, order an independent investigation, this might just silence critics. Until then, let them keep talking...the more they talk, the more inconsistencies, the sooner their political careers will be over.

On a side note...I really do not think folks like Sims realized the power of the new media. Perhaps they were counting on the same-old-same-old and that this was gonna go away

4. Maybe Sims and Logan can resign and go start a bank together...."House Training International Bank"...."Where your account is always 99.98% accurate and our tellers are Certified Good Home Trained"

5. Ha ha ha!!! That was great, flex...

7. I have to disagree with Ron Sims, I believe the resignation of Logan would be a step forward in gaining the public trust. King County cannot afford to have these problems in the next election. Voter confidence in our voting stystem must be restored now. I believe Dean Logan resigning would be a small step in that process.

9. Flex, I love it, I can see the ads for HTIB now:

"I love HTIB! I'm a Democrat and they often make bank errors in my favor!"

"HTIB, we pay higher dividends to minorities!"

"HTIB, every penny counts!"

"At other banks, you might be required to show ID, or provide a valid address before opening and account. We won't hassle you like that at HTIB, all you need to do is sign the form and you can walk out with the money you need today."

10. ... and can't you just hear the jingle (to the tune of KIEL mortgage)

We're incompetent at our job,
and just to big to care,
H and a T, and an I and a B...,
Good Home Training!

And then at the end of the commercial in a really fast voice:

Offer open to King County residents only, proof of residency not required. Past performance does not guarantee lack of future indictments.

Da, da, da, da, da, da, da!

11. Sims will continue to support Logan until it is no longer politically expedient for him to do so. Then he will ask Logan to resign--unless Logan knows too much about shady King County operations, as I expect he does. Either way Sims needs to go, also. Too bad I won't get to vote on that one. Maybe I could get a mailbox in King County.

12. I will be in Renton on Wed., is there somewhere there I can go register to vote???

Isnt that address of over 500 homeless people and a couple judges have a few more vacancies?

I live in Lewis County, but I am sure they won't check.

I did write an email to Reagan Dunn this morning, even though I dont live in his district. I let him know how pleased I was with his request for Logan's "head".

I am still Giddy about all this....Made my whole day....I wonder how Logan feels right now? Maybe as frustrated as most of us have felt the past 4 months????
