Wenatchee Report

At the risk of turning into a Walter Winchell-style namedropping gossip columnist, I post this report from a reader who attended the court hearing in Wenatchee last Friday:

At the court hearing, one wonders how the Seattle P-I reporter (sitting in court right in front of my wife and I) who got kicked out of the courtroom by the judge for taking a cellphone call during the hearing, could get it right in his article...In fact, he did not get it right.

David Postman from the Times was mouthing "I TOLD YOU SO" at him, as the bailiff escorted out the door...but Postman didn't say a word about it in his article.
At the risk of being accused of pulling a Lapham, I also refer you to Skor Grimm's flash update dateline Wenatchee, March 18, 2005.

UPDATE: A reader queried the P-I about the above incident and was told that the reporter, Lewis Kamb, apologized to the judge in writing and was allowed back in to the courtroom after the break.

1. Now that's a riot about the P-I reporter.

Also, thanks for the link Stefan. I'd say you're safe from being called a Lapham, considering the "Humor" categorization posted below my "story."

Keep up the good work.

2. According to king5.com:
Former candidate for governor Dino Rossi is expected to hold a press conference at 4 p.m. today. Tune in to NorthWest Cable News for live coverage or come back here for live video streaming.

3. Hey, when the "governor" calls to tell him the spin, what choices does he have?

4. This post is priceless!!
Perhaps we should e-mail the P-I Editor and ask for a public apology from his "reporter"??
I think I will.

I respect David Postman....I don't always agree with him and how things are framed, but remember, Postman has Editors. What he writes isn't always what gets printed.

The P-I on the other hand is hopeless. Just look at the 2 headlines after Friday's Court hearing.
The P-I focuses on the re-vote being tossed (Big Deal). The Times focuses on the R's lawsuit being allowed to proceed. Huge difference.
Perhaps next time the reporters cellphone goes off and he takes a call in a Court room, Judge Bridges will help him put it in a very dark place where he'll never be able to answer it!!

Obviously this reporter is uncapable of the popular Leftist pasttime called "Multi-tasking".
It's these little sideshows that are very amusing. Keep digging them up.

5. That was a good press conference. I was a little apprehensive at first thinking that he might pull the plug. However, he didn't and vowed to go forward. He also eased my mind when he said that if the election is reversed, he will take the position; but, unlike CG, will work with the Legislature to call for a new election. He also said that a new election could be held this November because there will be a vacancy in the Legislature that will be voted on in November due to someone stepping down. Also, when asked by a reported what other evidence the Republicans had to overturn the election, Mr. Rossi told him that he was not going to tell him and that it will come out in court.

All-in-all, I thought he did a very good job.

6. Absolute hoot about the P-I reporter. Since it happened in court, it should be on the transcripts when they come out, correct?

What a blunder. You know that the judge had to lay down the rules, and this person blatantly chose to ignore them. Props to to Judge Bridges.

Mr. Cynical, we'd love to hear what the reporter's editor says to your email.

7. I haven't gotten to read about the press conference yet, but Gil wrote:

I mentioned in a reply to a post from a few days ago that, if "installed" as the governor, I would absolutely expect Rossi to vacate the post when provisions could be made for a new election. It sounds like Rossi would do exactly that.

Do you realize by how great a margin Rossi would win in a new vote if (and, I believe, WHEN) he kept his word to the citizens in the State of Washington to have a new vote? My prediction is that there would be no doubt about the margin of his victory.

8. Well, so now Rossi is a liar as well as a sore losing crybaby.

It figures.

10. Nelson--
Cheer up Dude!!!
When the evidence starts cascading into Court and your Lefty-Wacko buddies are forced to testify under oath, you will be able to get lots of real laughs...but the joke will be on YOU!!! This election will be set aside. Keep whining Nelson, I'm sure it will garner more votes for Gregoire in November.

Dino always takes the high ground. That's why I voted for him and will do so again in November.
Unfortunately for you Nelson, your gal said:
"This election is a MODEL for the rest of the nation and the world at large"!
It's on tape...ready to roll Dude. That plus Paul Berendt's WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH to count all votes (especially the illegal ones!).
Classic politics---
Your problem (well one of your many problems Nelson) is you have no sense of humor.
I mean can't you find any humor in the illegitimate Governor of Washington proclaiming all is well....as ballots are streaming in from Walla Walla, cemetery's, folks signing multiple ballots and other illegitmate votes piling up! Oh and perhaps we can also see a bunch of hippy wannabee's stuffing ballot boxes in KingCo just like a big TURKEY on Thanksgiving!!!
Where is your sense of humor Nelson?
The real question is where is your sense?

12. This seems to be a running theme with PI political reporters. At several press conferences over the last few months it has been clear by their questions and conversations with the subjects at the end that they either didn't "get it" or that they weren't listening.

It is really odd because the rest of the reporters at times almost mock them for their lack of grasping an issue regarding voting procedures and other information related to the 2004 election debacle. I'm not talking about the way they slant their articles, I am talking about just their grasp of the concept before they apply their own slant.

If you have to read a local paper to follow politics the slightly more accurate of the two is the Times.

15. Nelson,

You are apparently referring to Dino Rossi saying earlier that he would not accept the Governorship unless a new election were held.

Today he is still consistent with that sentiment. He was referring today to the Judge possibly vacating the Governorship and defaulting the election to the result of the 1st recount.

In other words, the Judge would nullify the last recount and Rossi having already been certified from the 1st recount would automatically become Governor. Governor-elect Rossi said today that he would seek a special election as soon as possible and then step down.

That is not inconsistent with what he said previously.

On the other hand, if he did not step down then many including myself would be greatly disappointed as most I believe are supporting Rossi's credibility.

16. Funny story about the PI reporter. We never get to hear about that kind of stuff, but it's amusing to hear about.

17. Nelson,

I stand in awe of your reasoned analysis. How could I have ever been so wrong about Rossi. I am now utterly convinced that he is both a "sore losing crybaby" and a "liar". Thank you for opening my eyes.
