SEATTLE UNIVERSITY FEDERALIST SOCIETY Panel

The Federalists will hold a gubernatorial election panel next Tuesday. Their flyer frames the following posers:

"What went right? What went wrong? What is next?"

Get a load of the guest list:

Mr. Paul Berendt, Chair of Washington Democrats
Mr. Chris Vance, Chair of the Washington State Republican Party
Prof. Joaquin Avila, Resident Voting Rights Expert
Mr. Bob Terwilliger, Snohomish County Auditor
(Dr. Avila is a constitutional law scholar. )
February 8th, 2005 - 12:15 p.m. - Room C1 - at Seattle University, 901 12th Ave.

This, I believe, is the first post-gubernatorial-fiasco public forum with Vance and Berendt on the same stage.

There will be a Q&A (after each panelist speaks for 10 minutes), so why not leave a comment with a question you'd like to ask?
I'm sure someone from SoundPolitics will be there. (Not me, I'll be call screening for the Michael Medved Show at that time.)

1. I have a question for them:
In the 2004 Washington State Governor's election, who got the most (legal) votes?

Posted by: Ronin on February 2, 2005 03:18 PM
2. I wouldn't expect Mr. Berendt to give a straight answer but I'd still like to know how he can say that the WA-Dems "won the p.r. battle" after Mr. Berendt behaved so childishly, calling Rossi a "thief" and the Republicans "liars."

3. Someone needs to ask Berendt about the recent statement in which the Dems came out in favor of "legal aliens...participat[ing] in the voting process."

4. Room C1 where?

Need an address.

5. Seattle U... does that need an address? Ok.

6. I would like to ask Berent why they would not call this 129 vote difference a virtual tie as Christine Gregoire did in the last two machine recounts, and with that margin of error why every illegal vote should not be scrutinized and looked at by a court.

7. I do like the name John Carlson came up with for Rossi supporters: ROSSI'S POSSE

Bet we'll see it soon on a bumper sticker near you

8. I would like to see the representatives asked about the legal implications of assisting an illegal vote to occur. As I understand law there are two valid precepts in this vote, how do both these precepts affect their support for their parties position on the revote:
1 Assisting an illegal act to occur is aiding and abeting. By acknowledging their understanding that illegal voters were allowed and were to be allowed to register and vote the disenfranchisement could not have occurred as the illegal voters didn't have that right to vote and the official assisting their action are as prosecutable as the voter.
2 Ignorance of the law is not an excuse. Saying you didn't know a statute or law existed requiring proper certification or the removal of felons and the dead from voting rolls may well be a crime by ommission.

9. I'd like to see them ask each side for their definition of "illegal votes." The judge has just asked the lawyers for each side to comment on this, and it is apparently not crystal clear in the statute.

10. You absolutely MUST bring the Dean Logan support letter (from the stack of Auditor e-mails previously posted). You absolutely MUST ask Terwilliger about that letter he drafted according to the Corkstress (Corky Mattingly of Yakima County).
Ask "Sideshow" Bob how he knows what Logan did in this election? Did he "audit Logan and Huenneken's work BEFORE attesting to what they did? Why he would write such a "circle the wagons letter?
AND THE ABSOLUTE MUST:
Who requested that Mattingly have that letter drafted and forwarded to all 39 County's to sign off???
If I could be there, I would. So please, please pretty please PIN THE MAN DOWN AND MAKE HIM ANSWER STRAIGHT UP!@!

11. There will be a Q&A (after each panelist speaks for 10 minutes), so why not leave a comment with a question you'd like to ask?

I like the formats of the old debates and wish there were more of them like the old days as they bring arguments to a head on collision instead of uncontested rantings on both sides.

Although that can be entertaining as well.

I saw a debate a couple of years ago on tv with Alan Keyes v. Alan Dershowitz on the role of religion in govornment. I hope this will be as entertaining. Look to see the legal issues drawn out.

12. Why are "late voting surges" always occurring on untraceable touch-screen voting machines and always in favor of Republicans?

13. If it's hosted by the Federalist Society, it's sure to be good!

(As opposed to the ABA)

14. ASK - If Rossi were ahead by 129 votes would the Democrates have contested the election?

Posted by: Keith on February 2, 2005 05:57 PM
15. That question doesn't really need to be asked, Keith. The answer is yes, because the Democrats insisted on 3 "counts."

Posted by: DeadManVoting (aka Iguana) on February 2, 2005 06:44 PM
16. The "What went right?" portion will be fairly short I would imagine.

17. I would ask Mr. Berendt if he ever remembers leaving voice mail messages or personal messages with an employee of PJ Seidenstricker. Well PJ was the Chairperson of the 11th district Demoncrats. I worked for PJ for a couple of years from 95-97 after she bought the business of my old employer. Mr. Berendt left at least 100 if not 200 personal and or voice mail messages that I personally recieved and forwarded to PJ. Trust me I was a Republican before but the amount of just crooked decietful messages and communistic garbage that I heard just made me realize how organized these left winged wackos really are.

If PJ somehow gets a copy of this post I would like to offer my sincere condolences on the loss of her father my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family in this very difficult time.

18. Question: What changes would you support to prevent, detect, and prosecute vote fraud?

19. Question: What changes would you support to prevent, detect, and prosecute vote fraud?

I would expect the DemocRATS to dance around that question - they know that they would be losing more votes than the Repubs.
Bottom line; Ask them tough questions.

Like wouldn't they be doing the same thing if the roles are reversed and Rossi was currently the sitting Gov. and was ahead by 129 after the last recount ? My bet is that they would try and dance around this one, but it would be interesting to watch their body language and how they field a follow up question ..
