Wolfgang von Skeptic Speaks

That's the nom de blog of one Loren Bliss, a Western Washington resident and veteran newsman, who among many other assignments, served as a UPI correspondent in this region. Bliss voted for Gregoire in November, but says a revote is crucial, and that he'll vote for Rossi this time, if he gets the chance he says we all deserve.

I voted for Gregoire because I felt Washington's social safety net was at risk, but I nevertheless fervently believe there should be a re-vote, because under the circumstances, there is no way a Gregoire administration will ever have legitimacy in the eyes of a substantial majority of the state's electorate. Furthermore I am increasingly appalled by the smugly defiant Democrats who are in effect spitting in the faces of (the many) who believe the Seattle/King County Democratic machine stole the election from Dino Rossi; the Democrats are also giving the finger to the slightly larger percentage who want another election. (Ed.-here are the results of a recent, statewide poll).

And while I formerly believed Gregoire was a moderate, now because of her failure to repudiate these machine politics, I believe she is as dangerously radical as the Sea/King Democrats themselves....

Voters like Bliss do not fail to notice - as many Sound Politics readers have also pointed out - the most recent blatant hypocrisy perpetrated by Washington state Democrats. While Wa-D state legislators have been sending their constituents e-mail after e-mail saying the courts ARE indeed the right place to resolve the contested election results, the state party is now seeking, in court, to kick the decision back to the Democrat-controlled state legislature. Stellar blogger Timothy Goddard demonstrates this here.

I'm FROM Chicago, and I'm appalled.

1. Sometimes truth means you need to transcend partisan politics. This is one of those times.

2. Off-topic, but what the hell:

The Seattle Times (daily circulation a meager 230,000, and plummeting) may sell more copies than the Seattle Post-Intelligencer (daily circulation a pitiful 150,000), but I just learned of the Times' new attempt to stop their hemorraghing circulation (besides laying off those 100+ people).

Folks, they're going to have a "Faith and Values" page. Link:

http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/localnews/2002152197_fancher16.html

I can see it now: The Times had a big editorial conference where the staff liberals thought up all the ways to appeal to those "red-state" kind of people, many of whom have been cancelling subscriptions. And the only thing they could think of is: give them more religion.

How pathetic. How lame!

Please, put the Seattle daily newspapers out of their misery now. Stop buying them and stop reading them. They're dinosaurs.

3. I find it interesting that the democrats are even uneasy with this being in the hands of the courts in this state. I guess it stinks so bad that the only place it can be handled is in their unbiased hands. Ha Ha Ha. It was very clear what their agenda is by their first few moves this year. To ram CG in office before the contestment was heard, and to offer up a plan to attack the BIAW. Happy times aren't here again for these folks. See you in COURT!

4. John Carlson described these tactics, which we've all witnessed before: The Ds scream one thing; when that one is answered, they scream another; when that one is answered, they scream another, no matter how ridiculous it sounds compared with what they were screaming previously; etc. They never are satisfied. Carlson called it 'jumping from one liberal lily pad to another liberal lily pad.' Very appropriate description.

If you're not afraid of looking totally ridiculous, YOU TOO can be a Democrat!

5. How about an initiative:

Resolved that the King County Elections Department will be independent of any political or management ties to the county.

The county will fund the department from tax revenues at the level of 2004 adjusted for inflation, population changes and number of elections per year.

The office of Director of Elections be made non-partisan, and subject to election every 8 years. At any time that the office is vacant, a special election will be held to fill the position for the remainder of the current 8 year cycle.

That the elections cancass board be made up of one representative from each of the two political parties attaining the greatest number of votes in the most recent general election, and an attorney with specialization in election law appointed by the director of elections.

--- Can't be worse than the current system, can it?

--- OK, start throwing darts.

6. There seems to be a recurrent theme of comparison between the Daley Machine in Chicago and the KingCo Machine in Seattle - this is so unfair to Chicago! Having lived there during the 60's and 70's, I have a few observations: First off, things generally worked; the roads, the police, streetlights and garbage collection, etc. At least you got some value from the corruption! When a business (jobs - voters) wanted to expand, a "critical area" wasn't discovered by a county bureaucrat - you simply paid-off the "right people" and got on with business. Do you think Boeing had ANY problems moving their HQ to Chicago? Another thing, it's actually OK to have displays that celebrate our armed forces in Chicago unlike Seattle where bed-wetting city council members debate what kind of navy ships they will allow at Seafair.

7. "Stellar blogger" or not, Timothy needs to reconsider where the case belonged before the legislature issued that certificate of election to Gregoire the Pretender -- and which court has jurisdiction of the case now that the Pretender is in office.

The legislature was supposed to decide the contested election before issuing that certificate of election. The Democrats refused to do so.

Now, a writ of quo warranto appears to be the appropriate way to determine whether the Pretender holds office rightfully.

The state supreme court has original jurisdiction of quo warranto proceedings involving state officers.

8. I'm from Chicago too. I don't think that the Seattle crooks understand how insulted thay should be that the Chicago machine makes Seattle's look incompetent both in the areas of crookedness and governing.
