Orange Ribbon

Reader Robyn Goodwin writes:

I am starting a grassroots efforts here in Thurston County, WA. to encourage everyone who sees that this election was a mess, to tie an orange ribbon on their car antennae (the color that the opposition team in Ukraine used). Could you please post this. I have contacted Rossi Headquarters, called in to NWCN, and called in and contacted KVI. Press on, Rossi!!!

This sounds like a wonderful idea for residents of the whole state. Let's not stop at cars: fences, porches and front doors seem like good candidates, too. I'll be wearing an orange ribbon on my lapel until election laws and procedures are reformed.

1. I'm already wearing orange. It makes a great conversation starter. My hubby and I would be willing to go to Olympia for a demonstration, if you give us enough warning. We went to the demonstrations in downtown Portland in December 2000 until Bush finally persevered.

Go, Dino, go! Stay tough and stand tall!

I agree with an earlier poster who said he thought Oregon where he lives was bad until this mess in Washington started to break. I live in Oregon, too, and was feeling pretty good about it until I remembered the Goldschmidt/Kulongoski mess, complete with financial scandals, murder mysteries, child sex abuse, nearly constant lobbying in the Gov's office, and more!

So, no, I guess I don't feel better about living in Oregon. Is it like this everywhere???

I'm with ya, sister!

I have been thinking of putting orange ribbons in the Cap. Way/I-5 over pass, like the support our troops ribbons at Madigan, exit 122.

Some where in down town Seattle too.

5. I'm in. To make it reall effective we should have a big orange ribbon on a main intersection near Democrat headquarters and Gregoire Headquarters. Oh and the intersection near the I-5 on-ramp right by the KING COUNTY BLDG.

6. where can I get an orange ribbon, if I make one myself it'll look like a cow

Posted by: expat on December 30, 2004 09:56 PM
7. I simply bought construction/surveyor ribbon from a local safety store. I have tied it to my antenna. I am currently seeking information on finding someone who can mass produce car magnetic ribbons that are orange, and maybe say re-vote.

Efforts are being made to organize a rally on January 11 at the capitol. I will post additional details as they become available. Also go to www.revotewa.com and sign the petition.

Press on! Press on!

8. ORANGE CRUSH!!! GO ROSSI!!!!

Posted by: Kristin on December 30, 2004 10:10 PM
9. I drive a mini-van with the antenna inside the window, so I can not tie a ribbon but I have a number of magnetic ribbons. If you find someone who makes them let me know I would like a few. I look forward to the rally in Olympia. My husband and I signed the petition. Go Dino!!!

10. Another option would be to put your Rossi signs back out on your front yard and maybe also tie an orange ribbon to them.

12. Bartell's is selling off some large rolls of 3/4" reasonably orange ribbon for 75% off (christmas leftovers) if you want something quick and easy for now. I got some tonight and wrapped bows on my side-view windows, because one of my cars does not have an easily tied-to antenna. I have a ton left over! Wish I could just toss it to all of ya'!

13. When Democrats did this (Ribbon thing that is) to remind the world that mr. bush stole the 2000 Election, the republicans screamed that its over... move on.

Well guess what?

A Democrat has won. its over Move on.

14. Hi Magnum,

How can you honestly say a Democrat has won when the numbers of votes counted in King County Exceed the number of registered voters? What about those of us that were part of the questionable votes that the court allowed to be counted, yet were still not included? I find it odd that they didn't count every one of those votes. Could it be because King County will do anything possible to steal elections for Democrats when the Democratic Party tells them to?

If you want to count every vote, then count them not just those supporting one candidate.

19. Way to go Dino! Saw him on Fox news last night, and my only criticism is that he didn't emphasize the disenfranchised Military members enough. Whoever is speaking about this should constantly remind the press, etc. about the similarities between Florida 2000, where to this day, absentee Military votes were never counted.

We will be leaving on extended trip soon and will festoon our RV with large orange ribbons so the rest of the West coast can see this travesty!

Have also emailed national bloggers to try to get them more involved in this.

20. I found a rather nifty little orange ribbon graphic floating around on the 'net and have been using it on Pajama Jihad ever since Orange Tuesday. Its creator intended it as a symbolic protest of the outcome of the 2000 Presidential race, but I've appropriated it for my own use.

My original Orange Tuesday post along with a link to the page where I found the orange ribbin .gifs can be found here.

21. We need to have bumper stickers made, stating, "Dino Rossi is MY governor!"

22. Before you start emulating what you think you know about the Ukraine elections, it is not what you have heard in the press. There is nothing we should want to emulate including the saffron (orange) banners, scarves and ribbons. There are cultural reasons for the saffron that I would not want associated with GOP that I will not get into here.

As an analogy the people of Ukraine picked between New York's John Gotti and Chicago's Al Capone for president. They are both dirty, filthy crooks that only have their self interests at heart. They are deep in the Mafia and have stole millions from the Ukraine people, including aid that the USA sent to Ukraine, Yushanko and his cronies have pilfered. THEY DO NOT CARE ABOUT THE UKRAINE PEOPLE.

I believe Mr. Rossi does care about the people of Washington. Let’s win this on our merits as Washingtonians and not emulate a crook thirsty for more power.

23. I'll be looking for some orange ribbon to put on my car! Meanwhile, can we recall Sam Reed? How can he claim that this elelction was fair?!

24. There were several counties this time (2004) where the republican vote for mr. bush was like 212% the total for all registered voters.

Yet no one is screaming about that.

Call me a troll all you want. Its a good way to brush it all under the carpet.

So, I once again say to you all, Get over it, Move on. And guess what? This is exactly what the republicans told the Democrats who wanted a fair vote in 2000. They told the Democrats, "Get over it, Move on" in 2000.

Posted by: Magnum Serpentine on December 31, 2004 10:28 AM
25. Magnum: Do you want to show us some proof of the several county misvote for PRESIDENT Bush? If you can't come up with some, I suggest you shut your trap.

Plus, one little problem with the move on remark: Thou hast forgotten that the Miami Herald even stated that Bush's totals were correct from their own investigation and told people to move on.

So, until such time as you can provide me CONCRETE evidence like Stefan has about this election, fist yourself.

Posted by: DJ Bachhandel on December 31, 2004 10:43 AM
26. That is what the left would like is for us to get over it and move on. And, that is typically what the right would do. But, not this time. No more, we will not be silenced. Press on!

Posted by: Robyn on December 31, 2004 10:44 AM
27. I'd normally want to be gracious and concede this election but how can that possibly be done with all the "discrepencies" that have already shown up. By all means there should be a revote with all the rules clearly understood and the same in each and every county in the State of Washington. The cost is something that would just have to be accepted and chalked up to experience as has to happen with so many of lifes errors. But to just accept Gregoire as govenor elect at this time would be shameful for all honest voters in Washington. Tie on that ORANGE ribbon!

Posted by: Karen on December 31, 2004 11:36 AM
28. I just signed the petition for a revote at Orbusmax.com. Now I'm going to get orange ribbon too. I want a new and honest election.

29. Magnum, this is America, and you have the right to free speech.

I was pointing out to others that in my opinion you are not intellectually serious, and looking for content in your posts was a poor use of their time.

Feel better now?

31. I do not like the way this election has proceeded. It looks as though you simply protest until the desired results are produced.

I have never felt this strongly about an election. Supporters of Rossi, and the policies he stands for should get ready to work hard to make sure that righteous government prevails. If we don't get the results we want, let us unite in communicating our concerns to the governor's office, no matter who's in office, we work within the system to prevail.

33. Sounds good. I'll fly one. But this is for real reform, not get-backs. My penny bets there hasn't been an honest election since before 1960 at least. Americans just aren't that honest or scrupulous, and too willing to do anything to win.

What's changed? Being more sophisticated and better connected, we're better at catching each other.

34. First, prepare a recall petition on the witch Gregiore. Second, vote her sycophants out of office.
Third, Secede from King county... I know that Bellevue, Redmond, Kirkland, and many more are sick of the abuse, neglect and constant attempts to manipulate our lives with Seattle's fricking liberal "bad Eastside" attitude. The influence, power and resources the Eastside communities has should rear up and REVOLT. Fist Seattle and it's entire freak show. Use our voting power and taxes to improve the economic and political environment, and let Seattle sink into the Sound. And once and for all, shrink & reduce King county to a insignificant group downtown.
I will never trust another vote that King county has control over. They lie, cheat, manufacture and fabricate to stay in power.

36. My husband and I just came back from the mall, there was a little kiosk there that makes window decals for vehicles. I wanted a "large orange ribbon", like the support our troops ribbon. My husband came up with the idea for it to say "support our troops" on one part of the ribbon and "& their votes" on the other part. It is rather large, and will proudly be displayed on the rear window of my vehicle. We had them make a smaller version for the side window of my husband S-10 pick up.

39. Young Republican, how refreshing to read your post. My nine year old son has been following this whole process closely, mostly due to the fact that I listen to alternative media coverage, read about it here, and talk about it. I can't wait to tell him what action you are taking at your school. He'll be inspired by that. Young people like you give me hope.
I wore my orange ribbon yesterday and did get questions about it, what a wonderful opportunity to bring it out in the open instead of allowing it to be swept away as some major media sources are trying to do.
