As a quick deterrence from the ongoing headache also known as Christine Gregoire's inability to concede and the Democrats' inability to act like adults, let's take a look at some other local news.
Perhaps you recall a few weeks ago when reports rolled in of an apparent murder/suicide at the hands of a man by the name of Stephen Byrne of Edmonds. Byrne, 50, in the middle of a bitter custody battle, sought fit to take his own life as well as the lives of his two daughters Haley, 9, and Kelsey, 11 in true premeditated fashion.
While the murder/suicide investigation is still open, Byrne's friends and family recently placed a paid death notice in the Seattle Times that's causing a bit of a stir. Interestingly enough, the first few words of the obituary of a murder read:
"Steve, who lived in Edmonds, savored life..."The lovely Michelle Malkin recently fisked the not-so-lovely obituary, which painted Stephen James Byrne with quite a different brush than the final actions of his life would portray. In response, Malkin notes:
"This apologist propaganda on behalf of a selfish, brutal, and evil alleged child killer is already having an effect on bleeding-heart liberals in the Pacific Northwest. After what is predictably some negative feedback to such an obituary, Seattle Times columnist Nicole Brodeur wrote an article that can only be described as "safe". She didn't condone Byrne's actions, but she did manage to sympathize with him as she writes:
"I have chronicled enough sadness to know that stress and depression can distort love and logic like a funhouse mirror...So I feel for Stephen Byrne.Michelle Malkin warns us to read Brodeur's article on an "empty stomach". It's amazing what type of concessions we make under the philosophy of "dealing with sadness". But really, did anyone expect anything different from the Seattle Times? .....
So once again, I was reminded: You Never Know. How a capable father will deal with sadness. "
"I have chronicled enough sadness to know that stress and depression can distort love and logic like a funhouse mirror...So I feel for Stephen Byrne.
Oh, puhleaze. Lots of people deal with stress and depression without having to murder children. Love and Logic never result in the murder of children. Get off the pipe, girlfriend.
Sometimes, when I read stuff like this (and similar mooings when that mother in Texas offed her five little children) I am almost tempted to believe that the left-wing really is a child-hating death cult.
Posted by: Matt J Kurlander on November 30, 2004 12:41 PMHowever, the bigger question is: What would push an otherwise decent life loving guy (if any of the stuff in the "memorial" is to be believed) to do what he did?
Speaking from experience, the Family Court system provides NO JUSTICE and NO FAIRNESS to fathers. In custody disputes, the ovaries win every time. If you have ovaries, you win. If you don't you lose. I know of at least a half a dozen guys that were cleaned out by lying cheating ex's and the ex's got the kids (myself included). The courts did not take their behavior into consideration at all. Not relevant. You simply cannot seperate a child from their mother, regardless of how badly they behave. In some cases where the father can prove drug use or prostitution they have a chance, but only if they can prove it and it usually has to occur in front of the children for it to make a difference. Think I'm kidding? I'm not.
So before you write Stephen Byrne off as just some psychopath child killer, you have to ask "what would push a man to commit this kind of atrocity"? And when are we, as a society, going to do something about it?
