Today's Seattle Post-Intelligencer published some more poll results.
Initiative 83, the Seattle Monorail Recall initiative, is trailing 52% opposed, 33% in favor and 15% undecided.
I-884, the sales tax increase for a billion dollar a year Education Slush Fund is leading 49% to 43% with 8% undecided. The reality might not be quite this grim. As No on 884 campaign manager Jamie Daniels put it:
"It's right where we would guess it would be... It's politically correct to say you favor education, but when people get in the voting booth they vote for lower taxes."Let's hope. But let's not take any chances. I-884 and the Monorail are two of the worst examples of bad public policy, diverting hundreds of millions of dollars out of the productive economy into feel-good make-work programs that offer little real value. It would be a sad day for effective transportation if the Monorail were to fend off the recall, and a sad day for education quality if I-884 passes.
Now get out there and do something this weekend to help pass Initiative 83 to kill the Monorail, and to defeat I-884. Walk your precinct. Talk to your friends and neighbors. It really is up to you.
