Today's Seattle Post-Intelligencer editorial comments on the missing Iraqi explosives
Unfortunately for the Bush camp, the story of the missing explosives of Al Qaqaa won't disappear as easily as the explosives did.As is so often the case, the P-I's editorial board carefully cherry-picks the facts, Michael Moore-style, to present a hilariously distorted picture of events. Was it "nearly 400 tons" of explosives, or only 3 tons? Could Saddam have moved the explosives before the war, possibly with foreign help? Haven't even Kerry surrogates Richard Holbrooke and Jamie Rubin acknowledged that they don't have enough information to reach any conclusions about the explosives? Such questions apparently aren't of interest to those who are as intelligent as a post.Administration cover stories for the loss of nearly 400 tons of explosives are fading like raindrops in the desert.
Nevertheless, the P-I concludes:
Voters are left to ponder whether they want to retain the commander in chief who lost the cache in the first place.Naturally, the P-I wants to believe that Bush is to blame for whatever this half-baked unfolding story turns out to be. But what if it's determined that the cache was "lost" by Saddam Hussein himself or by IAEA chief Mohammed El-Baradei? I suppose the P-I would call for these guys to lose their jobs too, wouldn't they? Posted by Stefan Sharkansky at October 28, 2004 10:34 AM | Email This
