Nethercutt v Murray Debate

The second and final Nethercutt - Murray debate took place last night. Video of the debate is here. Murray had this bizarre vacant stare on her face most of the time. As this woman in a focus group said

Sen. Murray stared at the camera like she was trying to win a staring contest
The panelists screened Nethercutt's ad with the video clip showing Murray's "Osama builds day care facilities" statement and asked both candidates for their comments. Nethercutt challenged Murray to justify her assertion that Osama built any day care facilities. Her response completely ignored that point.

Neither the Seattle Times nor the P-I mentioned this in their respective debate wrap-ups. I guess both newspapers think it's okay for their favorite U.S. Senator to just make stuff up, no matter how ridiculous or inappropriate.

1. Nice post. I still can't believe Patty "Osama Momma in tennis shoes" Murray was elected to the US Senate, not once, but twice! And sadly, possibly a third time!! Even after making that unbelievable "Osama" speech! Aparently she thinks Bin Laden is a kind philanthropist and all around swell guy! What's worse is that nearly two years later she still stands by her remarks! Incredible! Patty Murray is an embarassment to the state and the country! Wake up Washington! Don't re-elect this treasonous ignoramous!

2. I tried to watch this debate, but watching her sorry mug stare off into space was actually disctracting in it's hilarity.

It was one of those things that sort of starts as a small chuckle and builds. The moderator asked her a rather lengthy question and she never looked at him, she just stared forward. And then she didn't even answer his question. By the time this happened I was laughing so hard I was almost crying.

I'm not a huge Nethercutt fan, but to paraphrase The Kids in the Hall, do you know who would make a better senator than Patty Murray? A dog or a cat or a cow or a clump of mud or a piece of string.

3. KenJ,

Or a pair of tennis shoes :-)

OT - Too bad I have to do my commute thing (Vancouver[WA] to Lake Stevens) this weekend, as George will be doorbelling Saturday in my (weekday) neighborhood. But I'm making it up by GOTV calling all next week and being an election-day poll watcher down here in Clark County.

In my 20 years as a GOP Voter here, I've never gotten a GOTV call. Having seen the GOP plans, that should change this year. Anybody who wants to help out could make a real difference. Contact your county GOP.

4. Speaking of debates - I just got back from the last debate between Rossi and Gregoire at the annual WBBA meeting at the Westin Hotel downtown. I'm a Dino supporter, but have to say I was disappointed. He was all awkward pauses, no smiles, harping on the negative and finishing it with, "I'll be just fine if you don't vote for me." Talk about a let-down. Gregoire on the other hand used her bogus claims to appear positive, smiled a lot, sounded really excited about the potential for stem cell research (very appropriate given the audience) and was fluid enough to convince naive folks that she knew what she was talking aboput.
Can we at least get Rossi to smile once in a while???

5. I agree with Colin. Saw the same thing. Dino looked like he's coming unravelled. Almost like a drowning skunk. What happened? I thought he was supposed to be the positive, upbeat one. Instead, he spent the whole time sniping at Christine, who was smiling and looking like a winner. She looked like a governor. He looked like a desperate man who'd rather be anywhere else. I think this one is over. Too bad.

6. Unfortunately, it's not looking like any of the major state races are going to be much of a contest. The closest I've seen Nethercutt in polls is down by 11 points. A head of cabbage could run on the democratic ticket in this state and get 65% of the vote.

7. I saw it... I just wondered what would have happened had the debate been fair and J. Mills was there...

8. We are a very Democratic state, but I'm still hoping for an "upset" It's so hard to get a real read on a canidate with 30 second ads and a couple of debates...I'm guilty too, but most voters don't do a lot of research on their canidates (or the opposing one) and just vote.
