It's in the P-I

Speaking of "bogus claims" and the Seattle Post-Intelligencer, today's P-I editorial: "Build the Seattle monorail; vote no on I-83"

It's stunning to see Seattle's timid response to an outrageous attempt by a disgruntled land baron to underwrite the end-run around public process that is Initiative 83.
It's not just "a disgruntled land baron" who wants to put the Monorail behind us, it's the many other contributors to the campaign, the dozens who endorse the initiative, the dozens of volunteers who collected signatures and the tens of thousands of Seattle residents who signed the petition to put the recall on the ballot.

In any event, do the Seattle residents who would have to suffer the consequences of having a Monorail in their neighborhood, and/or pay hundreds of extra dollars a year in vehicle license taxes really care what the P-I's Boys from Bainbridge Island think about the Monorail they'll never have to pay for? I don't think they do.

On the contrary, the volunteer efforts had only gathered about 12,000 signatures with about three weeks left to go until the deadline by which they had to give the petitions to King County for validation.
It was the massive cash infusion from Martin Selig that enabled hiring paid signature gatherers that brought in an additional 21,000 signatures in the 11th hour.
This initiative would never have made it to the ballot were it not for this one "disgruntled land baron".
