Brad Jacobsmeyer sent us this e-mail, which he also submitted as a letter to the editor to the Seattle Times. Brad predicts "as they’ve never printed [my letters] before, I doubt they’ll start now":
I read with interest your endorsement of Dave Ross for Congress, and couldn’t help but notice the similarities between today’s 8th District Congress race and the 2000 Governor’s race. A popular, knowledgeable talk show host was challenging a well-known leader in Washington politics. This talk show host had years of experience dissecting complex political issues at all levels, and actually had a significant hand in implementing good policy in Washington State, such as the Three Strikes initiative and I-200. He would also have faced the challenge of translating his smart, pithy sensibilities into results in a Legislature usually controlled by the opposite party. His opponent, while also knowledgeable on the issues, was soundly whipped in the debates that were held.Brad added "Thank you for all your work, and may your readership continue to grow."Of course you endorsed Gary Locke, the well-known government leader, over John Carlson, the well-versed talk show host. You managed to do this using the exact opposite reasoning you used this time, while still managing to label as a moderate someone who had proven himself, like Ross, to be very liberal. Congratulations on twisting yourselves into a pretzel to continue to serve the goal of extending the dominance of the Washington State Democratic Party and its sclerotic policies.
Thank you for your letter, Brad, and please write again soon.
