Debating against articles of clothing
Patty Murray has been avoiding debates with her challenger George Nethercutt, so Nethercutt debated a pair of tennis shoes instead:
The conversation with the white, size 7 sneakers is the closest the Republican has been able to get to a face-to-face debate with his opponent, U.S. Sen. Patty Murray, the Democrat originally elected as the "mom in tennis shoes."

I've suggested something similar to Mark Griswold, who's running in the 43rd legislative district against Speaker of the House Frank Chopp. Chopp agreed to debate Griswold on October 11, but then backed out for some reason. Hopefully Chopp will commit to a later date. If Chopp doesn't pick an alternate date soon, Griswold might consider holding a public debate against an empty suit.

1. It does make me wonder what Patty Murray is trying to hide. Why won't she debate George Nethercutt so we really know what she believes and what her plans are for the next 4 years? Is she hiding behind her handlers? Why won't she debate more than twice, and why won't she allow rebuttals and follow-ups to questions? And why is this not an outrage to the electorate and to the media. Are voters going to re-elect Patty Murray even though she won't make public appearances and answer voter's questions? I've heard that she won't even appear at the same event if George Nethercutt will be there. I ask again, what is she afraid of?
2. She's afraid of the voters finding out that she's the stupidest senator in Washington (DC, that is). It is said to be an open secret among congressional staffers that she's a total moron. Too bad the state press doesn't care.
