Good News for Charter Schools

A recent statewide poll shows that Referendum 55 to establish charter schools is leading 53 - 36%.

The Approve Referendum 55 Campaign is endorsed by a bipartisan group of elected officials, educators, community activists and businesspeople who believe that parents deserve to choose the best schools for their own children; and who understand that healthy competition and accountability to parents is essential for improving the public schools.

The charter school opponents are limited to school employee unions and their paid-for politicians (every single one a Democrat, by the way). Their only motivation is to protect the unions' taxpayer-funded monopoly on public education spending. A pity for the rest of us.

Even though we're currently leading in the polls, this is no time to slack off. The opponents of school choice are a well-funded and highly-motivated army of people who are desperate to fend off any challenge to their revenue stream of mandatory union dues and the political power that comes with it. They will say anything to mislead voters about the benefits and justice of school choice. Don't let them get away with it. Educate yourself and your friends about the importance of school choice. If your own legislator is on the list of charter school opponents, contact him or her and explain why they are wrong and that they will pay a political price if they continue to stand in the way of parents who want to choose better schools for their children. Support the Approve Referendum 55 Campaign with a financial contribution.

Above all, vote YES on Referendum 55. The futures of a great many children depend on it.
