Monorail Mania

The Monomaniacs are not happy that the people of Seattle will finally have a chance to revote on the Monorail. The One-Track Minds are starting to say some really, really silly things:

"It's really a bunch of wealthy Republicans and NIMBYs who don't want strange people in their neighborhoods, who don't care about transit and all the social and environmental good it can do," [Monorail advocate Grant] Cogswell said of opponents, referring to the "not in my back yard" attitude.

"Seattle is all about different kinds of people going to every neighborhood and getting to know each other. That's why Seattle isn't like those harsher, freeway-oriented cities like Houston and L.A. We're a gentler city."

Now hold on. The one named individual on the pro-Monorail side of the lawsuit is former Gov. Dan Evans, a Republican, who lives in a multi-million dollar mansion in Laurelhurst, miles away from the proposed Monorail line. So it's more accurate to say that the Monorail is really a creation of wealthy Republicans who want to send all the strange people and their environmental good into someone else's backyards.

As to the second point. If a strange person like Grant Cogswell wants to go to a different neighborhood to get to know the folks who live there, there is good news for him. Here in Seattle we have something called "buses". And for those who have already figured out how to use the Internet, but haven't yet figured out how to ride the bus, Metro Transit even has an online primer: "How to Ride a Metro Bus". The directions are simple enough that even a Moronorail supporter should be able to understand them.

1. But folks like Grant Cogswell will never ride the Metro Bus. While desperately trying to collect signatures for I-83 at the Admiral Starbucks in West Seattle, I discovered significant discrimination against "different kinds of people' among the liberal landed gentry. They despise the Metro Bus because find that some people on them are just TOO different to sit next too. Several folks actually told me he would ride the Monorail because there would not be bums on it like those found on Metro buses. I doubt this very much but it's a sick-minded rationale and exposes the hypocrisy of this city's liberal hegemony.

2. Cogswell. Hmm.
Didn't he make cogs ... while Spacely made sprockets?

Nevermind. Back to the topic.

Really? Just how expensive do they think the Monorail tickets are going to be? Posted by: Kirk Parker on September 14, 2004 08:16 PM
