KUOW-FM interviewed me the other day for a short news item about the Families and Education Levy. They also interviewed a representative of the Muni League, which claims to have "delved deeply into the intricacies" of the ballot measure before endorsing it. Muni Man to KUOW:
“The proper way to measure the success of the programs that are funded with the families and education levy is by looking at whether these are programs that provide a strong foundation for students to be successful in school. It’s not whether an individual student finds his performance better because of participating in one of these programs. But whether overall the kids of Seattle are getting a better chance at a good education because they’ve got this extra support.”That's not really very different from what I'm advocating for. Unfortunately the levy initiative provides no way to ensure or even measure whether any kids are "getting a better chance at a good education because they've got this extra support".
As usual, my advice to the self-appointed deep-delvers at the Muni League: delve deeper.
