After six years there is some justice for Congressman Jim McDermott. Clinton's Justice Department found a reason not to convict him for criminal possession of an illegally recorded phone conversation -- even though he admitted he did it. He says his right of free speech allows him the break laws. To me that means he is above the law.

If I had done the same thing I would be finishing my six-year sentence. The Congressman who represents me but shows no signs of knowing where my neighborhood is was let off.
Congressman Boehner of Ohio had to sue McDermott. So it took several more years. U.S. District Judge Thomas F. Hogan ruled Friday that McDermott "participated in an illegal transaction when he accepted the tape." It took so long because the same judge 6 years ago dismissed the case. But the appeals court overruled him. And the US Supreme Court sent it back for trial!
It appears to be a civil lawsuit, so Big Jim won't be doing time. Will they put him back on the House Ethics Committee?
