The Seattle Times reports that an increasing number of first-time home buyers are being totally priced out of the city's housing market. Fortunately, the Mayor and City Council are on the case:
The City of Seattle recognizes that local policies and regulations can affect the cost, production or preservation of affordable housing. As a result, City departments, led by the Office of Housing, routinely evaluate their policies, practices, and regulations to identify areas in which City policies could work against housing affordability. One wonders whether it occurred to the nice people at City Hall that raising property taxes by $117 million will not make anybody's housing more affordable. Actually, there were a couple of properties that were put out-of-reach due to property taxes or home-owner dues.
List prices are a lie.
