Savun Neang

At Saturday's King County GOP picnic, I met a remarkable gentleman named Savun Neang, who is running for the state House of Representatives in the 34th District (West Seattle and Vashon Island). Savun came to the United States 20 years ago as a refugee from Cambodia. His story, in more or less his original words:

I survived the "Killing Fields". Ronald Reagan is my hero. He ended Communism and gave me a second chance at life. I came here when I was 21 years old. I went to high school and then college. Now I own a computer store.
You got to love this country.

Now Savun is running against incumbent Rep. Eileen Cody, one of the most anti-business members of the House.

"We've got to get her out of there," I said.

"We've got to get her out of there," Savun repeated. "She never comes to anything in the community."
