The Seattle Times disguised a plug for Patty Murray as a news story on July 19. But they got real quiet when scoring her record as chair of the Democratic Senate Campaign Committee for the 2002 election. The Times says she was so successful at raising money that Tom Daschle admitted her to his inner sanctum of leadership. But the purpose of the DSCC is not to raise money. It is to recruit good candidates and put together a strategy to control the US Senate.
Senator Patty Murray failed in 2002. Before the election the Democrats controlled the Senate; after it the Republicans had control. She failed at her assignment as DSCC chair, despite raising a lot of money.
Oh, reporter Justin Mayo didn't leave it out. He depersonalized and down played this news under the heading "Helping Female Candidates."
